Parking fine I have nothing to do with

So I came home to find a letter with parking fine notice of £85 from eurocar parking. The letter obviously was sent to my address but i don't know the person the letter was addressed to nor ever owned the vehicle. I contacted eurocar parking and they said DVLA has got my address as the registered address for this vehicle and I need to sort it out with DVLA. I contacted dvla and after being on hold for over 30 minutes they told me that I need to send them a letter explaining the situation and await their response. !!!!!!....I have nothing to do with this car so why A mi wasting my time and probably money as I will send the letter by recorded post to have a proof.

So some person has registered a car at your address, and you have never received any notification from the DVLA regarding this?

They require you to send the letter, so just do this.

Copy the correspondence to the PPC. If they give you any hassle go to their ATA and complain to your MP.

This is an entirely unregulated industry which is scamming the public with inflated claims for minor breaches of alleged contracts for alleged parking offences, aided and abetted by a handful of low-rent solicitors. Is has been suggested by an MP that some of these companies may have connections to organised crime.

Parking Eye, CPM, Smart, (especially Smart}, and others have already been named and shamed in the House of Commons as have Gladstones Solicitors, and BW Legal, (these two law firms take hundreds of these cases to court each week), hospital car parks and residential complex tickets have been especially mentioned. They lose most of them, and have been reported to the regulatory authority by an M.P. for unprofessional conduct

The problem become so widespread that MPs agreed to enact a Bill to regulate these scammers. Hopefully, this will become law by Easter .

Unfortunately you need to do as the DVLA say otherwise the scammers may proceed to court which will be a lot harder to sort out than a few letters/emails now.

Also you should complain to your MP about this unregulated scam.

Maybe not. But if some (unknown) third has registered a car against your address, there's only one person who cares about the potential fall-out (apart from the person who did it), and that's YOU. Just send a letter (keep a copy, get a certificate of posting). At least you then have some kind of record of notification should it go pear-shaped.

We've seen incidents of people registering cars to other addresses in order to avoid come-back to them when they start breaking the law. You need to cover your a**e in case the next thing that arrives is an NIP from the police when they car's been caught speeding or whatever.

The DVLA are pretty useless sometimes but they may not be responsible for this mistake.
I asume the company you are referring to is Euro Car Parks:

    https://www.eurocarparks.com/

You need to pay more attention to the details too if you are going to get help and sort this out.

Unfortunately as above you are now dealing with a scamming private parking company and someone has done this intentionally or in error and a PPC will plague you in their quest for cash as that's all they are interested in.

You are unfortunately in the middle and will need to put in the effort to get this sorted, very unfair but that's how it is.

I'd be climbing the wall with rage!
  • Annoyed at the DVLA?? it looks like they are the victims of a scam like you are.

I can definitely understand your frustration being on hold for 30 minutes (typical understaffed Government department so send them the letter as requested and hopefully put it to bed.

Thanks guys.... let's say I sent them the letter and got it sorted. It can happen again...any one can use any address they like. The DVLA should have sent me a letter when this car was registered at my address....I would not have been in this position

Exactly you should have had the V5C sent, but it depends though how long you have lived there and when the vehicle was registered.
