Shark vacuums

Hi there,

I'm in the market for a new vacuum cleaner and I think I've narrowed it down to a Shark cleaner. Although I have an option of a NV601UKT and a NV700UKT for the same price, albeit the opportunity to get 40% off a 601UKT.

Question is, I can see that the 700 has duoclean but just wondering if there are any other differences to justify the difference between the 2. In our house the rooms are all carpeted apart from a small downstairs bathroom with is laminate and the kitchen which is vinyl. I'm assuming the 601 would give a massive improvement on our old Samsung one and just curious if we would see much difference with the 700. There is also an option to get the 801ukt from sharkvacuums.co.uk for £199 as well

Anyone got any experience of these or the duoclean?

Many thanks

Both models have been tested and reviewed by Which?

NV601UKT scores 77% overall and is a Best Buy. Which? says

    "What's it great at?

Like many of Shark's vacuum cleaners, this one is brilliant at sucking up hair and fibres. It also has a cracking set of filters, which means it locks in all of the nasty dust and allergens that it sucks up - a must for any allergy sufferer.

It's also good at deep cleaning carpets, and it's effective in crevices too, so a good choice if you have tiles or floorboards.

Is there anything I should watch out for?

It doesn't have any significant flaws.

Is there anything else I should know?

We like the LED lights on the front of the floorhead, they help illuminate the way and show up dust and debris that other vacuums might miss.

Although it's not poor, it's only average at sucking up fine dust from flat hard floors. It handles the bigger stuff well though, so it isn't too much of an issue, unless you're prone to spilling a lot of flour in your kitchen."

NV700UKT scores 70% overall. Which? says

    "What's it great at?

It's fantastic at cleaning in deep crevices, and it doesn't lose suction when the dust container fills up either, which is great news if you're prone to leaving it a long time between emptying. It's also great at sucking up large bits of debris, like rice and lentils.

This Shark excels at cleaning up any kind of hair and fibres. It's one of the quickest vacuums we've tested for sucking up large patches of entangled pet hair, and it's brilliant at sucking up longer hair and shorter fibres too.

The filter you get is also top notch. It hardly lets any fine dust particles through, which is great news if you're an allergy sufferer.

Is there anything I should watch out for?

This vacuum has no significant flaws, but frustratingly, it's only average for cleaning both carpets and flat hard floors. This is disappointing, considering these are two of the fundamentals of a good vacuum cleaner.

    Should I buy it?

Possibly. It's a great choice if you're a pet owner, but it doesn't do so well at deep carpet cleaning."

    HTH! :)

Wow excellent thank you. Not got round to signing up for Which yet. Pretty confident that we are going to see a big boost from our old Samsung and Hoover PetSmart, both of which are probably about 5+ years old. I want something that I can see is good at suction as our 2 present ones, including a bosch cordless we were given, just seem to glide over most bits of dirt and find myself on my hands and knees.

It seems the DuoClean is mainly for hard floors which I don't think we have enough of and the powered liftaway, I don't think we will see much benefit from. Just want to make sure that for the sake of £50, I'm not losing out massively although wife keen to keep as cheap as possible.

Guessing the 801UKT is pretty much the same

You couldn't be more wrong. It's true the main advantage of the DuoClean system shows up on hard floors but it also works exceptional well on carpet too, it simply just works. The powered liftaway functionality is also one of most useful features, you'll definitely be using it often especially if have stairs, clean on and under furniture etc.

The NV800UKT has been an absolute revelation since I bought mine over a year ago.

Bought the cordless duo clean a few months ago as fed up tripping over power leads. More than happy except for the small collection container but simple to empty. Never had a Shark before but would certainly buy again.

Glad it was helpful. :) I get more value for money from my subscription by posting their opinion here. And it is interesting to see what Which? have to say, alongside real life customers.

Bosch cordless vacuums seem to be patchy. Which? reviewed seven, of which three are Best Buys (72% to 80%) and one a Don't Buy (model Readdy BBHL2R21GB at 41%).

Hoover vacuum cleaners seem to be similarly patchy. Which? reviewed eleven (max 69%), of which two are Don't Buys (39%).

Every Shark vacuum cleaner (14!) that Which? tested scored highly (70% to 77% overall). The highest scoring and the lowest priced is the NV601UKT model.

    NV801UKT scores 76% overall.

Which? says "What's it great at?

It's an excellent choice for pet owners as it whisks away any kind of hair or fibre quickly and efficiently. It's a good choice for allergy sufferers too, as it has high quality filters.

This Shark will also clean well on carpets and in deep crevices, such as floorboards. It's pretty quiet too, and we like the LED lights on the front of the machine that light up the way and show you what other vacuums might miss.

The detachable unit on this vacuum cleaner makes it really easy to use on the stairs.

Is there anything I should watch out for?

This Shark has no significant flaws.

Is there anything else I should know?

It's only average at cleaning fine dust from flat hard floors, but it deals with the bigger stuff, such as rice and lentils, comfortably.

    Should I buy it?

Yes. It's a good alternative to a Dyson upright and typically you'll save a bit of money by opting for a Shark over a Dyson

Thanks again Firefox for the 801 score. I think 801 is the way to go, just need to persuade wife to spend the extra £50. Reading some more appears it's got a slightly smaller bin than the 601 but also maybe quieter and guessing newer model.

Also assuming these guys are legit to order from at sharkvacuum.co.uk

I won't and as with all reviews appreciate they can wonder either way. Worryingly trustpilot are pretty low and lots of bad reviews, but it's the only bad reviews I've seen

I bought the NV601UKT last weekend to replace my Dyson.

It is amazing !! Very pleased with it.

Bought directly from Shark as they had 10% off last weekend.

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
