I'm having trouble with Santander. I've just written a long post on the forum. I'm not used to this forum-writing though so I don't know how to tell you where it is. Basically though, I've had MY access blocked by them. All I was doing was transferring a sum from Santander to Coventry Bldg. Soc. … OK it was a substantial sum because I was topping up an ISA. Numerous phonecalls to no avail. All I get told is to go to a branch with my passport to open up access to my accounts again. I'm elderly and unwell at the moment. In pain to boot. Told them ALL this but there's "nothing they can do" to help! I'm making a file of everything that's happening and reporting them to the Ombudsman. Like you say, it's enough to give you a heart attack or a stroke, especially at MY age! And the length of time they leave you on hold is ridiculous!
Sorry to hear you're having trouble with them also, hopefully your issue is resolved soon i will try and find your thread and give it a read.
My problem is they have reported to CIFAS something which has caused my account to be closed by them, and i do not know why or what. Just having to play the waiting game now, and see if i can't open an account elsewhere (probably not) thankfully i do have a building society but i'm worried this might also be closed depending what has happened for Santander to report to CIFAS.0 -
Yes they are, as i was open and honest with them yesterday when i found out that the account had been closed. Told them i do not have a bank account currently as it's just been closed and i have been advised to contact CIFAS. So now they want to know why has it been closed, who are CIFAS, why were you not told, to me it seems they don't believe me and think i have done something to force the account to close (which isnt the case)
My partner knew before my employer did, phoned her as soon as i came off the phone to the bank. She doesn't want my wages paid into her account, already asked.
I have an account with my local building society, i can use that. I'm worried if i have some sort of CIFAS marker though that might also be closed.
Sorry if i seem cagey i don't mean to be i'll openly answer any questions which are asked.
Makes sense to use your BS account to receive your salary if that's possible.
When you get your CIFAS report you should find the reason for your current account problem and hopefully be able to do something about it.
If you were making loan repayments from that account, you'd be wise to contact lenders sooner, rather than later.
Can I ask whether your job is at risk solely due to the closure of your current account & CIFAS marking? Or is the reason unrelated? What sort of job do you do?0 -

I've just had a basic bank account application accepted by HSBC, just need to pop in branch with my ID and proof of address which i'll be doing tomorrow.
I hope my job is not at risk, I'm a CAD Draughtsman.
I have no idea why the director is getting all up tight about the situation tbh - I went to him yesterday explained that my bank account with Santander had been closed for reasons i did not know but they have written to me, and i've been advised to contact CIFAS.
From there it got all very strange, he started asking a lot of 'why' questions and if i had anything to tell him. Like he knew something i didn't, but thinks i should tell him. Felt like i was at confession in the local church. He told me to phone him this morning with 'further details' after having a night to sleep on it. Phone him this morning, said there was nothing new, he started with the whole 'why' questions again about my Santander Account, told him i didn't know. All i do know is he cares a lot about the office and our work production and doesn't want real life to get in the way of that and how the office runs, and he won't jeopardize that for anyone.
Maybe i was wrong to tell work my account had been closed, and that i should have just kept quite and just updated my banking details with them.0 -

HSBC has a reputation for being picky.
It's odd that they want you to go in to branch with ID and proof of address. They should be able to verify you electronically.0 -
SnowTiger I had to do the same with HSBC, I think they are over cautious with ID0

Is he perhaps aware of the debt pile and forthcoming bankruptcy, even if not directly from you, i.e. office gossip, etc, maybe? In terms of job risk, do your terms of employment require you to notify your employer of bankruptcy and/or is it likely to be regarded as significant?
He is aware of the debt and the pending possibility of a bankruptcy, far as i can see from my employee handbook it should not effect my position.HSBC has a reputation for being picky.
