pot hole on motorway caused a missed flight

go on then, tell me how do you get to St Lucia with 5 thousand people all flying there for the cricket via different routes and holiday makers from other countries on half term? Wait a week until the cricket is over? you seem to have an issue that she decided to pay for a flight the next day rather than missing a holiday
You should have asked the question at the time. Then you would have a few experts helping you out. How do you expect me to tell you after the fact?
She wouldn't have missed the holiday. At the worst she would have arrived a bit later. Your choice.
I honestly don't have any issue. I really hope that she enjoyed the BC facilities and the holiday, as it is an expensive flight.0 -

I can get a flight London - St Lucia, with virgin, tomorrow, for £562
im just saying...
im sure flights were inflated during this cricket period - but shelling out 7x the fare seems to be disproportionate...
in terms of contracts - you had a contract to be at the airport at a certain time, which you failed upon....
unless you had a contract with any party to get you to the airport at a certain time, you have no claim..
Thats why tour operators generally get you to the airport way too early.... as they have a commitment to get you there on time.
unless your taxi (or transfer) was booked on the basis of 'get me somewhere at x time' its kinda your own fault really...0 -

it wasn't inflated due to the cricket, there was no other seats due to the cricket
it's in the hands of Highways England now anyway0 -

you just can't seem to accept there was no other flights can you. I had to fly via barbados and st vincent and I had the benefit of pre-booking0 -
I asked how long she allowed for the journey and how long before the flight she planned to arrive at the airport.0

I don't need to accept it. The onus is on you to convince Highways England of the need to spend £3.5k.
BA are usually very good in letting you get there even 45 mins before the flight. So if she had checked in on-line, she could have even abandoned her luggage and gone through to catch the flight.
I've done that before. Mitigation, you see?
The fact is that if she was due to arrive at the airport three hours before the flight took off, but did not arrive until it was too late to board. She is going to have to explain what she did for those two and a half hours.
I have been on a tube train that was delayed. Called a taxi firm situated at the next station whilst I was still on the train, got off at the next station, where the taxi was waiting for me and got to the airport one minute before closing. I don't aim to get to the airport three hours before the flight and take calculated risks.
So I am afraid that you may have a difficult time explaining why she could not get another taxi out within the hour.0 -

Yes, by the time they got taken off the motorway and called a local firm it was too late. Her insurance only covers up to £500
Why didn't she call a local firm immediately? It's not as if she was driving and therefore couldn't abandon the car.
These are all things that are not going in your favour.0
