pot hole on motorway caused a missed flight

There was no compulsion to buy a £3500 plane ticket.
This is what most people are stuggling with. Its not that common for one persons holiday to cost more than £3500. Even if it did surely an additional £3500 for the plane ticket makes up a massive portion of the total holiday cost.
Why has she paid £3500 extra to go on this holiday? Why didnt she just call it quits? Did she only pay it on the basis that she thought she would get it refunded because thats going to be a mistake.
She was flying out to St Lucia to meet me for 3 weeks following the cricket, everything was already paid for0 -
Of course I say, it was St Lucia when the cricket was on
9th - 13th February? No flights to any of the Caribbean islands?
Seriously, you didn't do enough to mitigate your costs.
Insurance a no-go. You could try to sue whoever is responsible for motorway repairs or the taxi firm for driving without due care and attention.
Who else do you expect to reimburse you?0 -

Now I assume you don't know anything about getting about in the Caribbean, especially when the cricket was on...
there are about 5 thousand England fans all trying to get to the same place, all the tour companies take the internal flights leaving the rest to fight it out for the scraps so even if she got to another island the internal flights she'd have to of caught from Barbados were already full0 -

The flight she missed was paid for, the flight she needed to get wasnt.
There wasnt a cheaper flight later on in that 3 week period?
Anyway to your questions, you can try and sue the taxi company for failing to get her to her destination. I suspect theyll have mitigation due to the pot hole though and a consequence of road travel. You cant really sue the coucnil for the pothole because you didnt hit it. Youc an try claiming for lossess but the fact they where there to repair it suggests they where responding and within their responsibilities.
Youve got no complaint with the original booking. Youve got no complaint with the additional flight.
That leaves you with insurance. Maybe credit card but i suspect any claims will be rejected as little appears to have been done to mitigate the problems she was faced with.0 -

I know everything about the Caribbean.
You choice was to pay £3.5k or to mitigate your costs and accept some inconvenience. You honestly cannot have it both ways.
So if you think the motorway pothole is the reason, then that should be your avenue for redress.0 -

go on then, tell me how do you get to St Lucia with 5 thousand people all flying there for the cricket via different routes and holiday makers from other countries on half term? Wait a week until the cricket is over? you seem to have an issue that she decided to pay for a flight the next day rather than missing a holiday0 -
