There is some great savings to be made by looking on the relevant boards on MSE

Primus2 has free evenings and weekend and 18185 is 5p per call however long it is and they are cheaper on mobiles too.

You can sign up to more than one service and if you use the Orchid dialler it routes your calls to the best one at that time of the day automatically :T

Everything you need to know is in the telephone boards :hello:

As we both have mobiles and rarely use the landline we dumped it. 2 x Mobiles cost approximately £50 per month and broadband connection £29 per month. Total £80 or less per month which suits us fine.

We pay about £45 per month for home phone, broadband and cable TV thru Virgin - to be honest, we hardly ever use the phone, so not much of that is for calls. The only time we ever had a huge bill was years and years ago when had a dial-up connection, and got charged over £200 one month - soon learnt from that mistake!!

Hugs - might be worth asking for the bills monthly for now if you are not able to deal with all now. Then you can budget a little more and see if you can make a difference in just one month?

  • To the OP, (cant type your name it would look rude)

I used to have a quarterly bill like the one you have just received, but now my BT bill is less than £50 a quarter, and my VOIP bill is less than €10 over the same period, yet I am making more calls than ever, and at least 2 international calls every day.

May I suggest you invest in an Analogue telephone adaptor, plug it into your BB router, plug a phone into the adaptor and sign up to one of the VOIP providers?

I use voipcheap.com they allow 300 minutes per week to landline numbers including international ones, calls to mobiles are between 8 cents to 20 cents a minute and SMS is 5c each, after 90 days the 'free' calls end and landlines are 1c/min, then top up again and the 'free' days are back. You dont even need your PC on to make and receive calls

You can get an itemised bill and see exactly where the calls are being made and the time they were made and how much they cost with a BT bill.
  • My bill went up like this when I went onto free weekend and evening calls, huge charges and enormous bill. My bills have been bigger since I signed to option 2 than they were before.

I've just opened my BT phone bill £219.76 for a quarter ...................

When you've recovered :o have a look through Martin's article on phone costs:

It's really helpful and should help you to find the best company to save you the most money! :D
