It's more a warning that unless you have gotten this payment plan as an ongoing thing, rather than just the arrears, you may get a big bill on your next annual meter reading :( it's best to know.

Good luck, hope you get sorted!

We Just came back from UC where 2 ladies told us that my partner is making to much money and he is not going to get anything from UC even if we are struggling. I am not entitled to anything because I haven’t got 5 years continuous work. I’ve got 3 year in one job 3 in other. They said I need to do the settlement status 29 of March. They as well told us that he will be BETTER off working on a low wage then u will get top up with housing and UC and everything. Which basically mean u can earn 13k a year and be better off than working.. which is strange for me and it mean that system is wrong....:(

We do not have money for a deposit and we moved here because the rent were £250
Cheeped than living closer to London so that is not possible atm.
The car is costing you £440 so even paying £250 more in rent you would be £190 a month better off. The deposit you should get back from your current place (provided its not been trashed).

If it were me, I'd sell the car which gives you the deposit and money to hire a van. Once in use difference to pay off as much as possible off the HP, and once the deposit has been refunded that goes to the HP as well.

Moving closer to London would hopefully open up more job opportunities for you as well.

We would love to sell the car but is that not easy if the care is on finance. You would need to pay the big chunk am I right?

this depends how much of the finance you've paid. If it's over 50% then you can normally do a voluntary termination but you won't get any money for it.

other option is to sell and then pay the finance off with that money

I don't think this situation is sustainable. You have a shortfall without allowing for many things. Your husband earns a reasonable wage but not for the London area which is presumably where you live and a large proportion of your income goes on the car and your DH travel to work costs.

The electric thing is worrying as no way is £25 enough to cover your bills and if you already have a £550 debt this is going to go higher. Your debts are presumably rising and you have no savings or assets beyond the car which is actually on HP and not yours. Presumably there is a balloon payment due on it at some point?

Moving closer to London presumably would mean higher rent and all the costs of moving. Can he not get a job nearer home or are you able to work evenings, weekends etc?

You need to prioritise rent, council tax and utilities. You may need to consider bankruptcy but that will mean the car has to go back. I don't know much about the benefits system but I think you have caught in the trap of earning too much for help but living in an expensive area. Believe me I know about that as we moved out of the London area more than 30 years ago partly due to high cost of housing and only one income coming in. Even if you move out the travel costs to work are crippling. LOng term unless your DH has prospects of a much bigger salary I would be looking to move elsewhere in the country.

20 a day would be at least £250 per month. Even if he only smokes 10 a day, that's still £125 per month that he can't afford.

I know that giving up smoking is very hard but if you were spending £100+ a month on hair cuts or going out with friends, what he say about you needing to cut back?
