Thirty something dreaming of not paying mortgage

Ooh that does sound handy. I would love to be able to do that.
I think I just live in a difficult area. There are hardly any 3 or 4 beds in the area. 4 beds are generally 400k+ and the 3 beds I looked at were pricey and looked like they hadn't been looked after or seen a lick of paint since the 60s. So I think of our home where we've done a new kitchen, worked really hard stripping woodchip, repainting etc. And just think nah. Plus it does help that we have a friend who does loft conversions.
Our area is so expensive and it's the cheapest area in an even more expensive area. We had to get somewhere really run down to get a house under 300k.2 -
Wood chip is the worst! We stripped it all at the old house and I don’t think I could face that again. We have got artex to battle in the hall.Just been down a rabbit hole on right move- there is a 3 bed version of our house (ex LA so all similar size) for £4K less than we paid last year. So the loft is adding next to nothing in value. If it’ll improve your lives and you’ll get it back if you sell than I’d go for it 😀MFW 2021 #76 £5,145

Oh yeh as we would be turning it from 2 bed to 3 bed so it would add plenty to value. I think sometimes 3 and 4 beds can vary a bit less.
We had artex too. So painful. But so good when it's finally all done. Why anyone ever thought artex or woodchip were a good idea is beyond me!!Mortgage start: April 2024 - 295k Current £256k

Bleh the news is always so gloomy recently. Getting really fed up of these panic ridden stories so that certain people can make a lot of money. When will things be more positive again I wonder.

I know exactly what you mean with the news 🙁 Maybe I should invent a drinking game where you have a drink every time the word "crisis" is mentioned - that's quite a lot of times during a 30-minute bulletin! Not so good for you in your current condition, but you can live vicariously through me 🤣!Mortgage start: £65,495 (March 2016)

Just got through annual mortgage statement
Due to our £10,000 overpayments, our monthly payment will decrease by over £60 which is massive. So close to being in the 700s for monthly payments which feels so excitingMortgage start: April 2024 - 295k Current £256k

I'm getting really large now with the pregnancy. I got a bundle of high quality and really nice maternity clothes off fb marketplace for under £20. I think they would have all come to well over £200 new.
Made me feel really good and thrifty
Still using my fb marketplace funds for treats and used them to pay for the maternity clothes as well. Found some other things to sell which might fund a few more weekends of "free" treats if someone buys them.Mortgage start: April 2024 - 295k Current £256k

Well done on the overpayment that is huge!
great to get ahead a little before maternity leave2 -
well done on the O/P - great to see that huge elephant slowly being whittled down. Hope its not too uncomfortable for you at present, at least it is cool weatherDON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.
