Watch that, it might be the same or only 2 pipes but the solution, if it's the problem, is the same.

So, I found our thermostat which has Hot water at one end of dial, and heating at the other. Turned this to hot water and the valve moved over to hot water on the boiler. left this for a good hour, boiler was making noises, ran water downstairs and then upstairs. Still nothing.0

here you go
It's doesn't come out as cold as the cold tap water, but it's not warm by any stretch of the imagination. I feel like there is a step we are missing.0 -

Now we know it is a Switchmaster controller, further research indicates that it is an old fashioned system that shared the hot feed from the boiler between the DHW and CH pipes. The diverter valve seemed to be not the standard Feed to DHW or Feed to CH to Feed to both but a modulating type valve that was infinitely variable between the two outputs depending upon where the knob was positioned. I would be investigating the diverter valve and checking if it moved when the control knob was turned. Research via Auntie Google suggested that the diverter valves were prone to seizing up gradually, whilst they would still work, they took ages to move.0

Thank you. I will test this out tonight - my husband said it did move when I set it to hot water, but I will recheck when I get home.0

So I tested the morning and it definitely turns to hot water but just no actual hot water!0
