Has anyone used this site to back up music/documents etc? I tend not to put much on my pc, just music and a few odd documents but what i do have, i'd like to keep backed up using online storage but i'd like to know if Flipdrive is any good before i register. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. 1 thing i recommend, dont use Easeus Todo backup (freeware) did a recovery with the cd that i burned from that, rebooted and found out my 876gb partition was now seen as unallocated. weird, considering the partition wasnt unallocated when i created the image.
had to reboot using hirens boot cd 10.5, used active partition recovery 3. and got the partition back luckily without loosing any files.
Will now be switching back to acronis true image.0 -
it might also be worth considering using an online backup provider such as digidrive.co.uk a guy at work always has good things to say about them!0

I always worry about people suggesting firms about which I've heard nothing. Would you trust your data to a stranger? Their product looks interesting, but when I tried looking on PC Pro for their "review", a google search of the whole site revealed nothing. It all makes me very uncertain - not what you want in a back-up!
If you want to back up data to the cloud, try a TNO (Trust No One) architecture like jungledisk. Alternatively, go for a name you know and trust: Google have just released GoogleDrive, which is like DropBox, but much cheaper - anything you put in the folder is backed up seamlessly.Jumbo

Totally agree - any service like googledrive, skydrive or dropbox are open to possible abuse or a government organisation compelling them to release your data - it's the price you pay for the bells and whistles on their service to make it easier to use. If you lose your password, they can send you a new one, so they can always "see" your data.
With TNO (Trust No One), you can send anything to their servers and they do not know if what you're sending is random noise or encrypted files - only you have the encryption key. You lose the key and you lose the data, but no one else has access to it.
It all comes down to how much you trust Google or Microsoft or DropBox, how easy you want it to be to access your data and to how "paranoid" you are about your dataJumbo

I have 50GB web space included in my web hosting package at 1and1.co.uk. It includes ssh access and also allows to execute binaries on the server. So it's easy to use Unison over ssh and sync the encrypted files of my encrypted home directory (ecryptfs) to my web space...0 -
Pretty surprised nobody's mentioned SpiderOak. It's TNO and supports most platforms.0
