Sorry to Hijack the thread but I too am looking to change from Sky to Now.
When they change you over, how long are you cut off from the internet i.e. how long between one supplier stopping your service and your new supplier starting your service?
Thanks0 -
Same as any other
But seeing sky and Nowtv are the same company , not longEx forum ambassador

How long, in general, when switching from one supplier to another are you left without broadband?
Have only changed once when I went from Virgin to Sky but we had Virgin's own cables and ran the 2 systems alongside for a couple of weeks.
This would be the first time we would change using the same lines and the only thing putting me off changing is the time we would be "offline"
I think we were put on to a Sky LLU at the time we were hooked up if that makes a difference?
And, yes, I was aware that Sky own NOW but thank you for including that in case I didn't
Edit: Sorry, just one more question while I'm on here. In general, how long does it take from requesting a supplier change to actually having your services changed?0 -

About 15 minutes if that. This would be the first time we would change using the same lines and the only thing putting me off changing is the time we would be "offline"

All providers that use BT lines such as Sky, BT, Plusnet, TalkTalk etc use the same infrastructure so its far easier than coming from Virgin who use their own network. In the future you'd just pick somebody else and they'd manage the entire operation.Edit: Sorry, just one more question while I'm on here. Average of 17 days including a cooling off period but you will only effectively be off line for about half an hour at the most. Once your internet goes off on your switch day just change the router over and you're away.0 -
Thanks Neil
Sky arranged, and paid for, Openreach to fit a line to our house and then connect to the exchange.
When I looked to change about 3 years ago, the guy at SSE (I think it was) said that we were on a Sky LLU in our local box and it might take 3 weeks for them to complete the change - i.e. internet would go off when they changed the phone over and they wouldn't be able to sort the internet for up to 3 weeks meaning we would be without it for 3 weeks0 -
sorry to hijack but its related:
I just got the sky email saying the following price rises
Price changes per month from 1 April 20!19
Sky Broadband Unlimited - £1.00
Sky Talk Anytime Extra - £2.00
so from £17 to £20
after a quick look around i can see Now bb offer the same for £18 and their minimum speed is 4.4mb (skys was 2.5mb, so i'll get faster speed too
- but i read sky own Now, so surely it wouldnt differ?
so after just calling sky to enquire about cancelling, i was told not to worry as ive only recently signed up three and a half weeks ago, that my price wont go up and everyone gets that email
so should i take that with a big pinch of salt?
seems like a sneekey sales tactic to me
is Now bb any less likely than Sky to up there prices soon?0 -

No idea whether NOW are any less likely to raise their prices - sorry. Personally, for the sake of £2 a month I wouldn't bother changing again (especially as NOW charge £9.99 set up fee).0 -
That's what i did last year, changed from skyBB to Now, and got all the NOW BB new customer incentive.
The good thing is I DONT need to change the router.
I got one delivered by NOW, but I was away for work at the switch over day. I have warned Mrs about the internet may be down at the switch day. To our surprise, nothing has changed! Our old sky router still working fine with NOW.
Happy with their service.. no problem at all.Spend smart, and save more.0 -
I have tried to switch to Now TV Broadband and Telephone but I have been told that they can not do this as apparently the 'necessary wiring' is not in my junction box. They recommended that I contact Openreach to report this which I did. They referred me back to Now TV.
I have researched the matter and now found that Now TV is owned by my current provider Sky. I am therefore not sure why I am being told Now TV can not provide my property (I live in a city), when there parent Company (Sky) has no problem in providing my property.
I wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this, as it appears I am being blocked from moving from Sky to Now TV on a false pretence ?0
