You don't have to touch the screen, you just hold it near it, where you hold it so to not block the screen is up to you
It's also a fact that an undisclosed percentage of Contactless payments are rejected for "security reasons". Basically, it helps to prevent lost or stolen cards from being used.0 -
Another upvote from me for using a contactless payment app on your smartphone. I use Google Pay. It works just like a card. The phone must be unlocked first (I use my fingerprint to do that). Then you get a positive payment tone and vibration on the phone. You also get a "receipt" on the phone, with time, date, amount, payee and a MAP of where you made the payment. This is great stuff - and much better than a card.0

I don't, because that's not correct. It literally means you can hold the card near to the reader to pay (yes, quite near, but you do not have to touch it)
Of course it contacts the bank. How would it even work if it didn't...0 -

What sort of premesis are these?
more and more vending machines are having card readers fitted. tried to post a pic but it didnt work but there are a few different ones without a keypad.

Is the keypad not "virtual" on those devices? (i.e. a touch screen keypad).0

http://www.theukcardsassociation.org.uk/contactless_consumer/what_is_contactless.aspThe contactless device contains an antenna so that when it is touched against a contactless terminal, it securely transmits purchase information.0 -

The transaction does go to the issuer but this might not be done at the time the payment is made as there is no requirement for the card readers to have a full time connection to the web.
You do not have to touch the reader. Honestly try it. I have nothing to gain by making it up! :rotfl::rotfl:0 -

Four lights only indicates the terminal has read the card; the terminal still needs to contact the bank for the payment to go through.0
