thanks Banger. They are all a bit rich for me tho I could probably just about manage the A4 Tech X-750BF Laser Mouse @£13
and anyway, whatever would I do with 7 buttons!! Please don't answer that, lol.

I will have to look it into a bit more and see what I can afford. I thought there must be gaming mouses but didn't know where to find them etc so thanks for that.

I must to bed. Say g'night mouse

I play a lot of RTS and strategy games and my mouse is years old and still going strong. Personally, I think for those sort of games a Razer may be over the top, they're great mice but they are pricey. One tip is to only use a wired mouse as they avoid any potential problems with lag or batteries running out at a critical moment.

Microsfot and Logitech both make good mice, even something like this should be OK

My current one is a Logitech MX510 which is no longer available, I think the MX518 has replaced it.

  • I think logitech make the mice and other stuff under the microsoft brand, when my microsoft webcam went funny, the microsoft site directed me to a logitech drivers page, I've used both microsoft and logitech ball optical mice, both cost over £30 and both did well, the microsoft one lasted a good few years, it's insides went wrong before the buttons, don't be a cheapskate, get a decent mouse.

I just had a quick look about, logitech make the live webcams...I'm not sure about the other stuff now.

I think you may have hit it on the head - I confess to being a cheapskate when it comes to mouses. Thanks for the reccomendation.

I am the IT tech' in a school and we get through mice like they were going out of fashion - or used to. Someone - before I started - got a load of really cheap (and nasty) Sweex ones. They didn't last long - thank goodness.

We've now invested in some decent ones (Dell badge-engineered optical Logitech Pilots). The only problem is that now (due to poor teacher supervision) we've had a couple of them stolen!

PS. All of the above mice are optical. We can't use ball ones, unless you glue them in!

I'll second all the Logitech recommendations. I've only had one go wrong (the G7), problem with the microswitch but it was replaced free of charge for an MX Revolution. In general all the Logitech mice I've used were great for gaming and lots of daily use. If you're only getting cheap ones and replacing them every couple of months then it's a bit of a false economy. All of Logitech's mice also have a manufacturer warranty of either 3 or 5 years.

And there we have the problem, buying cheap mice.

Think about it, your likely to kill that in say 3 maybe 4 months, everyone on here has been saying how great their Microsoft or logitech mice are and how long they have been using them playing a similar game to you but you insist on spending !!!!!! all on a mouse like that. wow 7 buttons for £13 put in the cost of the rest of the components I am sure they are all really high quality and will last for years :confused:

put your hand in your pocket and invest a little cash on something that will last. I still have the old Microsoft version 2.0 (with ball) but they were bullet proof. I replaced it with a 2.2, 7 years later and in the last few years I got a MS intelimouse explorer 2 and thats been good for a while and the batteries are rarely replaced which is good considering that it is used pretty much most of the day.

Another thing if you do find that the new decent mouse fails take it back to the shop you bought it from (PCworld is a good bet for this type of purchase) and get them to replace it. so you get a new mouse rather than just skipping it and buying yet another crap mouse.

You are all quite right of course. Buying cheap and then breaking them is indeed a false economy. But when you're as poor as a -church mouse :D - it can be difficult to do otherwise.
I shall keep my eyes peeled for some good offers on one of the types you have suggested and then I am sure all will be well.

Thanks all for help and reccommendations.
