Do you have to register for this tax as I have been given so many conflicting bits of information. They also said to me that you need to be earning over £90 a week for it.
lissa id hate to give you some bad advice, im not a tax expert im just speaking from experience. do u already have a job? even if u earn under the tax threshold im sure u still have to register. its best to call the hmrc, they'll be able to tell you for sure. the number is on the website. What matters most is how well you walk through the fire0 -
i have a full time job, but currently on Maternity Leave, returning shortly. Not sure how long I will be doing Avon for, but am really confused about registering for tax. Managers say its not worth it, other people say you have to do it, I just do not know what is best.0

if u dont get and u get caught you'll be stung with a nasty fine. the amount you'll be paying in tax will be minimal so i really think its worth doing! What matters most is how well you walk through the fire0

what a BRILL thread!:T
i have tried to read through it all but theres too much! i took up Avon again today. i have just been doing it for myself and my mum for the past 18months so no money making going on!!
(before that i used to do a few streets in my area and some friends and family and get about £180-£200 orders every 3 wks)
and i need a bit of extra cash and i LOVE Avon so i thought id get up and running again!
ive been given my old territory back plus 2 more streets, only 180 houses but i doubt i'll get loads of orders from them! whats annoyed me a bit though is that theres another rep who does streets by me (including my own!!) and shes phoned me with a list of houses in MY territory that are hers! so any orders i was going to get are gonna be hers!!
surely she cant be allowed to do it?!
anyway sorry for the rant but im dead excited about it really!!:o
good luck everyone!!:D

Join the club! There's a long standing rep on my territory too. She can't be bothered to take responsibility for any areas so she's just picked out all the best customers from five or six entire estates in the area.
I haven't even had a list of her customers and the AM is bloody useless about it. So I've had to waste umpteen brochures on this other rep's customers who had no intention of ever ordering from me. What a waste of my time and money?
I stole one of her brochures the other day when I discovered that we'd both left one at the same house. I've got her phone number now (at last) but am reluctant to call her considering the awful reputation she's got for being nasty to new reps on "her" patch.
I don't think this should be allowed either. You should do a territory or friends and family - not claim you have 300 friends and refuse to take on the territory as a whole.0 -
Elle thats terrible. She is clearly a sneaky such and such.
If your AM wont help and this woman is clearly not playing by the rules, then why should you?
I would ring her and tell her that your AM said (little white lie but hows she gonna know) that your terratory is your terratory and that you will be canvassing it all thank you very much. Then I would offer a discount/freebie to the ones i knew where hers just to get them on board.
I knows its a bit naughty but this woman isnt playing by the rules and its just not on! Grrrrr i feel angry for you! lol:happylove If you do what you've always done, you'll get where you've always got! :heartpuls0 -
After reading back through a lot of these posts i feel really privileged! my area manager is so good, i didnt appreciate what she did until reading how useless a lot of other peoples seem to be!0
-
thanks elle so its not just me then!!
well when i used to do it 18months ago she actually picked up one my brochures with an order in! the customer was gutted and quite annoyed as the other rep is soooo pushy and she tries to sell her crap from her house on the doorstep aswell! (and i mean crap! she tried to sell me used wrapping paper once!!lol):rotfl:
my AM told me to give her the ladies name and she'll sort it out if it gets a bit stupid but if shes got the ONLY customers in my area what have i got?!
i shall probably give her this ladies name as its my territory at the end of the day! the only funny thing about it is that the customers HATE this woman as she is always trying to sell them her own tat! plus it takes em ages to get her off their doorstep!!:rotfl:
dont i sound like a b****?! im not its just i want to make a living aswell!!
keep me posted as to your situation elle i think you should call her!:p

Guys I am HOPPING MAD after today's disaster.
I've only just managed the minimum order value today after getting the rest of my books in, and guess what? I discovered another SEVEN houses on my rounds are already the other rep's customers!! Well !!!!!! didn't they tell me this three brochures ago? I only know because I found two brochures out together at these places.
Out of 260 houses I have just 25 customers - yet at least twice that told me they order from the "other rep".
The AM never bothered to get back to me when I spoke to her directly a month ago. In fact she even ended the phone call with "and just a little tip for you..." What am I? An idiot? I can't believe she ended the call with a tip to try to make me feel like she'd helped when she'd done absolutely nothing.
I rang Avon this evening to complain and let rip at the girl on the other end when she started going "you'll have to speak to your AM as no-one here deals with territory". WHAT GOOD IS THAT IF MY AM IGNORES ME???
I ranted down the phone "ahh you've just lost yourself a rep then" and slammed it down.
Now I don't know what to do. My order value for this campaign is a pathetic £124 - for all those hours of hard work I'll get paid a pathetic £16 after I've paid for brochures and bags etc.
What upsets me is that this rep is down as doing friends and family so has gone and hand picked all the high spending customers from all of the surrounding estates. There is no territory left - she's on it all. And because she's been at it for a few years, most people are loyal to her - only a few jumped ship and came to me.
I passed over my details through a mutual friend when I first became aware of the problem and said this other rep should ring me to tell me who her customers were so I didn't waste my time on them. She didn't bother, even though I know the message was passed on, so now here's muggings having been slogging up and down roads dropping bloody duplicate brochures off to her customers. What a waste of my time. Not to mention brochures.
Earlier I was thinking of playing dirty and ringing her up and telling her if she doesn't give me the customers on MY OWN TERRITORY then I'll be taking them and following it up with a 15% discount to all new customers... But to be honest, I just feel like jacking this in. I feel like Avon already take the p*** with their slave wages so taking it this far is just too much. Who works for £1 an hour in modern England?0 -
That sounds really bad, i dont know what to suggest.
There is good money to be made but it all depends on area and looks like you have a bad one, it works out about £20 an hour for what we do0 -
oh god elle i feel so bad for you...
your AM is supposed to sort this out mine said she would but i know thats not much help at the mo. another responder has said that avon dont really care about territory as long as the money is coming in from somewhere, they're not bothered who:mad:
she isnt allowed to do this on your territory so i think i would just keep ringing her till she answers and sorts this out or try and go above her?
im not being much help really:o
i sooo understand how you feel though, you work your a** off for 3 weeks up and down back and forth in all bleedin weathers for b****** all!!!
i think if youve got a huge area and a oh to help you (a lot) you'll do very well, but for people like us theres not much in it. i used to make about £40 every 3 weeks i know not much! i sort of ended up treating Avon like a hobby!:o
I am gonna think about maybe doing an Avon party to get some interest round here.
so are you definatley giving it up?
