Thanks for the tip, useful to know. I don't have one at all.. Might have to ring the branch to see if they have one..
Also I am transfering today so the money will take 3-5 days to hit the halifax account. I guess it doesn't start earning interest until then does it.. I was told if I started the transfer on Fri/Sat it would have counted as last years allowance.
I am surprised you can't fund the account over the phone by ringing the halifax - I thought it would be as easy as that until I called them this morning..This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Which Halifax product do you have as the ISA Direct Reward web page says that it can be managed online or via phone so it might be worth phoning Halifax again.
If you have the cash and the time you may also be able to take it out over the counter from Nationwide (will have to call them up first and check that the branch has this much in stock) and then pay it in over the counter at a Halifax branch.
You are right in that the interest wont start until the money hits the account.0 -

The first time you fund an ISA with Halifax, they won't let you do it on-line or over the phone, because they need (want?) you to sign something to say you haven't already funded a different ISA for this tax-year. After that you can fund it over the phone or on-line.0 -
Hi, yes it is the Direct one. That's why I thought I should beable to call them and do it over the phone. Might call them back again. Has anyone else been informed they can't do it over the phone aswell? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Hi, thanks for this info
I've already signed some forms and have transferred my other previous years ISA into the Halifax direct account so they have all this already from me.. maybe I got the wrong person on the phone?!This is a system account and does not represent a real person. sorry for duplicate questions, I did post beore but can't find my post! If I were to open an ISA (eg the M &S one) and transfer my 2008/09 allowance into it, then open another ISA (RBS one) and pay into that -would I be allowed? Can I open more than one ISA but only pay into one?
can I also transfer ISA funds from an account in someone elses name to my account?Money burns a hole in my pocket, but I'm trying to be good!!:grouphug: :A

Thanks for this - I called them again and they said there is no way you can make a transfer over the telephone from another bank or building society as it's not possible. So I can't see what else you would do with an ISA other than take money from it or add to it, so why give you the phone option if you can't use it
Anyway had to run to Nationwide at lunchtime and got their last card reader and managed to do my transfer.. It will take 3-5 working days...This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I can currently get more in my savings account even after tax (3.2%) then I can in my ISA 2.9%. Should I bother putting it into an ISA?0

Natwest have the best ISA rates at the moment. I wonder what they have got up their sleeve once they have got everybodys money. Anybody got any ideas/theories what they have got planned!!!!!!!!!????
Also I had a very bad experience a few years ago transferring ISA funds into Abbey when they had the best rates and it took months to sort out the transfer. Lets hope Natwest staff are fully prepared for the onslaught!!0 -
Can someone just confirm something for me. ME and the wife both have £3000 each in our existing 08/09 cash ISA. This year I want to pay the full £7200 in an investment ISA and the wife wants to pay £3600 into a cash ISA and £3600 into an investment ISA. We both however want to transfer our Cash ISA's from where they are now.
Can I open a 2009/10 Cash ISA, transfer my 2008/09 ISA to it and still open a 2009/10 S & S ISA and contribute the full £7200 into it. Obviously no new money will go into the cash ISA.
I take it I can open a cash ISA for this year without contributing any new money, just the transfer?0
