  • Anybody else feeling totally frustrated at the length of time it takes to move ISA monies to a new provider? You see a good rate and then find the old provider has 30 days to effect the transfer! The chance of the rate being still available then must be quite slim in these turbulent times.
I've just had a fixed rate Julian Hodge ISA mature but their letter advises that I have 14 days to do something with it or it will be transferred to their (poor) variable rate on which they require 3 MONTH'S NOTICE!! They say this was in the terms and conditions when the account was originally opened but, of course, they never sent the t&c. Con men or what? The new provider says they can't guarantee getting the paper work to JH within the 2 week timescale so it looks like I'm stuffed! Stay well clear of these people.

Must say that I have had at least 5 FRISAs with Julan Hodge Bank over the years and have never had a problem - the 14 day transfer window is clearly shown in their Terms & Conditions, which they have always sent when I have opened an account; they have also always written around a month before each account matures outlining the maturity options.

I had one which matured on 30th October which, when I received their letter, I applied to transfer to Manchester BS, sending a copy of the transfer form to JHB for their information and to give them notice of my intentions.

They replied straight away, acknowledging my instructions and the transfer took place, as arranged, on 30th October.

Unfortunately, if you can't be bothered to read the Ts & Cs applicable to many financial products, you can find yourself in an unpleasant situation.

I've always found their customer service to be excellent.

  • from another thread over on the savings board, it looks like quite a few providers won't transfer/open a mini cash isa that was with icesave until the actual certificate has been received from FSCS.

they may not be issued until towards the end of December, so many reasonable deals will be long gone by then.

i've just completed our forms for scottish widows for transfer from icesave & just found out they are reducing their rate from Monday to 3.1% (like many others i would imagine).

i think i'm just going to forget about our isa's for this year now & hope for a better deal in 09/10!

  • again, sorry i didn't explain myself very well.

now i've got new ones sorted, hopefully, i'm just going to try & forget about them. (instead of looking for a better rate & worrying if i should transfer).

not just completely dismiss them for this year & lose tax benefits, that would be very unwise :)
  • I want a 1 year fixed rate Cash ISA (not transfer). The Moneyfacts seach is useless because you can select Cash ISA or fixed rate, but not both.

Best on 29/11/08 appears to be Halifax at 5.25%.

Anyone found anything higher; must be easy application process (no jumping through hoops).
    Wearing my other one today.

Moneyfacts fixed rate Cash ISAs are here - http://www.moneyfacts.co.uk/money/savings/11/fixed-rates-isa.aspx

The 'Cash ISAs - Fixed' link originally took you to a page displaying non-ISA fixed rate accounts but was corrected after I e-mailed them a day or two ago.
  • Just to let everyone know that Scottish Widdow dropped their E-Cash ISA rate from 6% to 4.6% just as I was about to print an application form.
    Must keep looking then.
