Hi,
I am trying to find best ISA rate for the new tax year. I have had a look and to me it looks like Barclays and Santander may be the best. But they all confuse me by the different sorts. I want a variable rate ISA preferably, I have 14,000 to transfer in from last years ISA. I am sceptical about Barclays having previously held a current account with them and they're customer service was appalling at the time. Which Variable ISA's would people advise?0 -

i thought the government said that isa s are secret and dont have to be declared to anyone. Now the dole office have found out that i have an isa and want to know how much money i have in it. if its over 16000 they will stop my dole.0

ISAs are not "secret" but don't usually need to be declared to HMRC when making a tax return. They are, however, savings in just the same way as any other savings and are therefore part of your capital.i thought the government said that isa s are secret and dont have to be declared to anyone. Now the dole office have found out that i have an isa and want to know how much money i have in it. if its over 16000 they will stop my dole.
Edit
Income-based Job-seeker’s Allowance’ is based on your income and savings. If you have savings over £16,000, you can’t usually get income-based JSA. Below this limit, for each £250 of your savings over £6,000, your benefit is reduced by £1 a week.
Warning: In the kingdom of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.

Same with HC2 certificates - you can't get them if you have £16k savings.

Surely that is what savings are for?0

Makes you wonder how many people in the UK have tens of £1000's stashed away and still claiming benefits.

Tried to do it online and it won't accept the full years allowance in one go. A message comes up "cardholder not present"!
You have to do it in chunks: £3000 to open the account online ,then once you've got all the paperwork the balance of £2670 can be paid in.0 -
I need a cash ISA to which I can make regular monthly deposits of say £100 but need to make withdrawals twice a year six months apart. Not to empty the ISA. Please advise which one would be best for me. My present cash ISA with Lloydstsb only pays 0.41% which is abominable!0
