Let's see how long it will take for Al Ryan to increase their profit rates to be the only one on top again.
Is there a good chance this will happen? Wondering whether to bother opening the Coventry building society account or not?
I have accounts open should rates increase, and so it's easier to open any new (or exclusive) accounts in the future.

Last time Al Rayan was 'stirred' was by another 'Expected Profit' topping them at 2.80% .. GH went 2.80 in the morning...  and AR went 2.81 the same afternoon.

After a couple of days, and after sucking AR in, Gatehouse made their 2.80 NLA.

Note for the interested: Cov BS 2.85% AER is not much difference to Al Rayan's 2.81% EP as the latter is 'gross', as someone pointed out (quite a bit) earlier.

Never mind the similar interest rates. I think there is a huge difference between unlimited access and 6 annual access only.

Coventry pays exactly the same rate at 2.81% if interest is taken monthly, so in that case the only difference is withdrawal limits. Not sure whether that really places them above Al Rayan despite the quoted AER; if anything, they trade the same position.

For some of us there's no practical difference - with interest rates going up I'm just using the Coventry account as a holding place at 2.85% until there is something else at 3%+.  One of the six annual withdrawals will see all but £1 moved elsewhere when the time eventually comes.

If Coventry increase the rate later in the year then I'll still have another five opportunites to rinse and repeat.

Ditto for the YBS Loyalty Six Access Saver when that becomes my 3% account next week.
