Hi. Can anyone help me? We are UK citizens but are currently living in Australia. We have just sold our UK house and the proceeds (approx 100,000GBP) are currently sitting in a Nationwide e-savings account earning a measley 0.45%pa. We can't pay into ISAs as we are non-residents. We don't want to move the money to Australia as the exchange rate is not favourable. Don't particularly want to tie up the money for any length of time, but wouldn't mind 6 months. Can we open new UK based internet accounts even though we are non-residents? (Nationwide implied that we couldn't). Do we have to pay tax on interest from our savings? Thanks in advance for any advice.0

I applied for the Newcaslte online saver. The tax form and the direct debit was done quickly but I have been told it can take up to 14 days for them to return my ID documents.0

I am interested in the Sainsbury's account. I already have an internet saver. Can I still open this one and transfer the money?0

I applied for an Ulster Bank esavings a few weeks ago.
They sent out the form for me to sign and I sent back the cheque about a week later.
Today I got a letter stating that I didnt meet the assessment criteria!!
Related to the information I provided when I applied!
How can they reject a savings account??
It just means I have now withdraw 10,000 from a savings account to cover the cheque, so I have had no interest on that money for 3 weeks.0 -
Whenever I open a new online account and they want me to fund it, I always just transfer £1 to make sure it all goes through ok, and if it doesn't, I haven't lost much!0

Me 2 - in both directions, nd FP now makes it really easy to validate in real time that you've set up all your account details correctly.0

You could have opened a regular esaver with them and transferred the money from that one as all it takes is £1.
I have no idea how they can do that AK Bank did the same to me and sent me back my cheque.I applied for an Ulster Bank esavings a few weeks ago.

AA are sound. They are based at the same address as the Birmingham Midshires in Wolverhampton. Both are part of a larger group of banks so do check who they are linked to.I personally would not stick 190k in any one bank account although saying that i do have more than 50k between the AA & Midshires myself !
Birmingham Midshires did have a lot to do with the 'Buy to Let' market & since AA are linked i really would advise to proceed with causion with the shear amount you wish to invest.0
