Well after much searching, decided after being with Ing for many years, to get away from Ing instant at quarter per cent and went for Citibank, at 2.?? I think it was, I have never had such a mess to open an account in my life, after application forms sent off, phone from India, I could not understand a word they said but the gist was they were trying to ask me could they sell me other products? NO!!

I had also asked if like Ing I could move money out of local Nat West account into Citi Bank, then back out of Citibank into Nat West when required, yes they said, well it turned out they know nothing in these far away places, eventually I got a pin number, (joint account so we got two)
nothing else, so a phone call, wait they said, then a week later a silver card attached to a letter with account number and asking to phone and activate, back to India, bad line, could not understand a word they said, I checked, I can use to draw and invest over phone, not internet, yes, and they said you can draw at machines too, but I do not have a machine in the village and you have not sent a machine card, and anyway I want to do all business over the phone, and how do you get my Nat West sort code etc, nobody has asked for it, fed up, I asked for a supervisor, you have elected a savings account and phone, yes I said, well you cannot draw out at a machine, I do not want to I said. It appears if I understood them correctly, I needed to use my Nat West debit card number for transactions, no use to me.

Could not hear her, could not understand her, so I said has the account now been activated, yes she said, well close it said I, I have never had such a complicated mess to open an account in my life!! We can put it into your Nat West Account she said if you give us the number, don't bother I said, send a cheque , it was £100. I now await the cheque!

I will stay with Ing, who are efficient, easy to use and if you speak to someone I think they are in the Phillipines, anyway you can understand what they say.

Quarter per cent is not much, but do not intend to keep much in the account!!! But at least it works well over the phone!!

Hey ho, maybe it my age!!

      Cheers oap

I copied the following from the moneyfacts website as I could not add a direct url to it. http://www.moneyfacts.co.uk. Am I right in assuming that the account accepts applications from tomorrow? Do they require a account opening cheque? This seems like a good deal after my account was declined by AK Bank.

      NOTES
      . Other Notes:Matures 30.6.11.

The £12.50% you mentioned is erroneous and should read 2.5%. Also I'm not sure how it would "mature" when it appears to be a simple savings account rather than a bond

Why not get them to call you to discuss the requirements using the following link:

Market Harborough does not seem to be on the best buy list anymore. The service there is really good besides a few odd things for example you need a 11 digit account number.

On a brighter note there is a 2.50% account from Newcastle. http://www.newcastle.co.uk/savings/newcastleonlinesaver it offers good customer service and the staff are helpful.
