I doubt we will see any Easy Access rates top 3% by the end of the year,

The next BoE meeting is due, (could be a emergency meeting even sooner ) on the 3rd  November. I’m calling it now a 0.75% basis points rise.

doesn't the Federal Reserve meet a day or two before that ? if so, BoE may have to take whatever the FR do into account too.

The Fed have raise the base rates by 75 bps three times on the bounce. So to answer your question, no.

I can happily make transfers from my new Santander esaver to my Santander 123 Lite. Haven't tried making payments to an external account
  • Many people just leave their savings in their current account earning 0%. I think people on here often vastly overestimate the financial knowledge of the average person!

I have touch on this before, just had a chat with a brother not 10 minutes ago about this very point. The difference here I’m educating him, he just won’t listen to me. He thinks I’m Albert Steptoe, I think  he’s an idiot.

  • Purely as a test payment, as I want to make sure I can withdraw before funding.

Very astute thinking. Just be aware they may let you withdraw a £1, but will they let you withdraw £10k without all the faff and fuss.

    I get a SV_0110 error.

    Snap!

Some googling indicates this error is because Santander have put a block on the account for security reasons.  The same error appears on discussion forums going back years.

I cannot be bothered to phone Santander about it for the moment, the money is in the account, I don't need to withdraw it for a while.  I'll wait and see if anyone else reports an issue and how they dealt with it.

    Nice one Albert
I choose the rooms that I live in with care,
The windows are small and the walls almost bare,
    There's only one bed and there's only one prayer;
I listen all night for your step on the stair.

A question. I opened the savings account with Al Rayan last week it is set up fully and funded.

Today I received a welcome pack in the post. There is one random page within the pack. It is titled 'Application for a Savings account'. It has prefilled my personal details (Section 1) and there is another section on Financial details and declaration (section 2), which talks about my initial payment and marketing preferences. There is then a space for me to sign and date.

Do I need to sign date this form and send back to Al Rayan in the prepaid envelope? None of the accompanying paperwork in the pack (and no email communication) indicates i need to complete this form and the account is  already fully open and funded?

I did mine on-line so did not receive anything in the post. They did send me a PDF document to sign and send back. Likely they need a specimen signature. However I have accidently deleted said PDF, I don’t think they will chase me on this. Would they?

Internal transfers from Esaver to 123 Lite also give an error. I had thought withdrawals may not be allowed for a few days after opening (as is the case with Tesco savings) but your experience disproves this.

Just re-read the email from Al Rayan when I first opened the account online it says:

    What happens next?

We will send you a welcome letter in the post; please sign and return any documents contained within it.

I think it must mainly be for a signature specimen.

On hold to Santander now. There's a block on my eSaver preventing me withdrawing funds.

On a separte note, I looked at this thread yesterday when we were on page 797 thinking it could get to 800 pages - been some replies over the last 24 hours !

When did you open the account??
Erm, yesterday. eSaver was only available from yesterday. Two different CS agents confirm there's a block on my account. Still on hold (on speaker) dialing though to get this fixed. Gave up after an hour first time. This is second attenpt.
