Looks like Tandem have removed the 0.35% top-up rate on their Instant Access Saver, meaning that the account now pays 4.65% to new customers.

I wonder if those waiting to have their accounts approved will still be able to access it once the account is opened ?

    https://www.tandem.co.uk/save/iasa

Update - wondering if this was a glitch as the bonus rate is showing now, just minutes later ? The account savings box still mentions the bonus. I only checked because I noticed it had disappeared from the top slot on the Savings Champion site.
Top up rate not now showing on their webby... If it's not shown there tomorrow, it'll get torn down to 4.65% in ToTP..
    I
    Already gone from MSE listing.
The latest MSE email with it listed was probably enough and Tandem now swimming in cash like Scrooge McDuck not knowing where to put it
I can look after it for them. I have a pretty big mattress.   ;)
  • Is Monument any good? looking at their EA - it's almost as high as many notice accounts. I already have tandem. I don't mind app only.
I'm happy so far. I'm almost completely new to app only but survived opening Tandem so went for Monument next.

I called them because I was concerned about what happens if their interest rate is no longer competitive and I want to move my last £25k (min balance across all accounts) out.
They told me I'd be politely reminded to top up the account but if I didn't the account would be closed. I didn't ask about the timeframe of that scenario. They said there would be no problem opening another account in the future. I asked if there was a limit to the number of times an account could be opened and closed and they said that there was not.

When depositing, which is almost instant, I did get blocked a couple of times by Halifax as Monument are not yet part of the confirmation of payee system. Recent transactions have gone through though.
I was blocked on Monday & today by Halifax but all was Resolved after I phoned there fraud department.

Not that it's ever nice to be blocked but the good thing about Halifax, I've found, is that there is no waiting to get through which is a nice change from Santander who took about 45 minutes to answer the phone!

  • @SirHugo, thank you. I knew the conversation was going on but I just skimmed over it. I'll go back and read it properly.

I have been jammy with these savers, applied for the Tandem last night and got the top up to 5%, last month I applied for the Castle Trust 1 year fixed at 6.2% the day before they withdrew it. Considering now also opening a Santander Edge current account to get the edge saver at 7% on 4k, I already have a Santander Select 123 account as my main current account

Tandem must have been bringing in more cash than they could deal with. Not overly surprising to see them pull the bonus, I'd say they thought they'd have more competition around the 5% mark by now.

There was more than enough time for anyone who wanted it to get it though, and for those that have it is likely to stay competitive beyond the next BoE interest rate rise (probably +0.25% to 5.5%)

I'm a bit surprised they have been so quick to pull the bonus. It will have unnerved a lot of the new customers, even if they got the bonus in time.

With Tandem, when paying in from your connected bank account and when not using the Truelayer option, do you put your own name as the payee or 'Tandem'? Does it matter what you put in the Reference field? Tks.

I used my name as the payee and put tandem in the reference field, but only for my benefit so I can identify which account I’m paying into.

Applied for Santander Edge account, got an email to say my application is now under review. Maybe they have been inundated with people looking to open the account just for the 7% saver
