    Hi Stavros,

Get yourself 3 Lloyds Vantage accounts. With 7k in each that's 21k earning 4%. Open two Santander current accounts with 2.5k in each and that's another 5k earning 5%.

That's interesting. So you are suggesting that it is now possible to have more than one Santander current account running at the same time? I think that when they were Alliance & Leicester it was only possible to have one of these accounts running at any one time?

Santander didn't used to be Alliance & Leicester, they are a Spanish bank who first entered the UK market by buying Abbey. More recently, they have purchased A&L and Bradford and Bingley, amongst others.

Anyway, these are Santander accounts which look quite similar to separate products that A&L have had now and again. I know that you can have at least two open at once, because I have two and so does my partner. Never bothered to try opening any more as I don't have enough dosh to fill them up with!

Yes I meant that Santander had acquired A&L et al.

Interesting to note that one can have more than one current account paying 5% for 12 months on balances upto 3.5k.

Sadly it's only 2.5 k, and yes the fact it's only for 12 months makes it less attractive in the longer term, unlike the Vantage account which has no time restrictions on the interest it pays.

But I guess after 12 months you would simply open a fresh set?

You'd be better with the Post Office Online Saver as they are paying 2.9%.

Unless you've already used up your £50K (£85K next month) protection.

Or can't face the customer service.

Yes, added to that is the fact that it's an Irish bank that's administering it.
