It just depends really whether they are a clearing bank, and if they aren't, what facilities are offered to them by the clearing bank they use. No excuse in the sense that they could just all move to a fast clearing bank, but if something ain't broke, don't fix it and all thatKevinG said:
It's annoying how some banks do that and some pay out instantly. No excuse for it that I can see.jaceyboy said:So it seems NBS are another Shawbrook where they hold your funds for a day before giving them to you, cant be dealing with that again after having Chip/Tandem etc, thats so backwards...If you want me to definitely see your reply, please tag me @forumuser7 Thank you.

It's just best to plan to not use this as an account you dip in and out of, like you might chip. That way the delay is less disruptivejaceyboy said:So it seems NBS are another Shawbrook where they hold your funds for a day before giving them to you, cant be dealing with that again after having Chip/Tandem etc, thats so backwards...1 -
Still waiting for my interest from Coventry. They paid it yesterday but it seems to be traveling to my nominated account on a replacement bus service.3

Somebody reported here making three successful payments with the same reference received by email when opening the account.tsmiggy54 said:Back to NBS again. Having recieved my email, welcome and ID, they decided to send the same information in the post(not sure why)
But i had no code to verify the account, i assume this is now sent, in a further letter.
Also i used the reference, for my small deposit. Can i carry on using my referecne or do i have to set up a account number for myself?
I have done 2 test payments with the initial ref number and 1 with long account number, both arrived same day.

They state they don't use faster payments but standard paymentsjaceyboy said:So it seems NBS are another Shawbrook where they hold your funds for a day before giving them to you, cant be dealing with that again after having Chip/Tandem etc, thats so backwards...Do you offer a faster payment facility?Unfortunately we don’t. We offer a Standard Payment facility for withdrawals; this will ensure your funds will reach your nominated bank account within two working days of leaving the Society. This came into effect as of the Payment Service Directive January 2012.

jaceyboy, must have read the T&C or just ticked the box saying they had been read, otherwise you can`t apply for the account.nic_c said:

So it shouldn`t come as a surprise that NBS is not instant withdrawals.
I can live with waiting a day, getting a good rate that`s going to go up the full amount of any future increase.0 -
The above accounts are no longer top rates, but there is a chance Newbury's EMA rise (4.10% wef 14th July) will make the cut when it takes effect.soulsaver said:Small(er) balance, ToTP rates:

My payment with the reference number (with the 4 leading zeros to make a 13 digit number required by Barclays) bounced. By that time, I had the NBS account number, so I used that, and it went through. So I don't know what the point of the 9 digit reference number is.uptdale said:
I had a similar issue with Barclays, making the initial payment. For a payment to Newcastle BS, Barclays required a 13 digit reference - i.e. the account number. But the initial payment requires the 9 digit reference number. I could not find a way of overriding it, so I ended up adding four leading zeroes to the reference number. Barclays accepted that - but I am still waiting for the money to appear in the NBS account.GlasgowExpat2 said:My NBS account ends in X’X. When I’ve tried to set up a new payee NatWest is rejecting the Personal Identifier as it has an apostrophe. Anyone else had this issue.

Has the dust settled on the latest increases post BofE rate announcement? Any of the bigger players or banks likely to trouble the top 10 yet to announce? I'm aware of Charter Savings to come (increase unknown I think). Any others? or largely done with for now?
