Just going to open a loyds vantage,
is it best to do it online, or in person, do i open one then wait a few days open number 2 etc?

Or could you just open 3 online on the same day?

    What do you reckon?

Once your online banking is set up, it's very easy to apply for more accounts, it's just a few clicks and the accounts are created, useable and viewable instantly. Much better than Santander, where if you click on their "apply online" button, the first page has a tick-box option to indicate that you're already a Santander customer; however, that doesn't make any difference and you still have to fill-in three pages of details about yourself!
  • Hello All,

I have £40k in a no interest current account. I am looking to buy a property somewhere in a couple of months (hopefully) In the meantime, would like to transfer out the 40k into an account which offers a better rate than in a Barclays Holding account, but do not want to tie in for a year...

    any ideas?

    thanks
  • Hi Everyone, I'm a Newbie so please be gentle.

I (WE) are looking where to put our savings for best interest rates.

We are both retired (early) and recieve pensions on which we pay tax.

We have current accounts, savings account and a mortgage with IF. (The savings are offset against the mortgage)

We also have savings with Nationwide (Flex) , NatWest (current) and ( a Internet savings account) and have just opened a new account with Ulster bank that pays a bonus if the balance is kept above £10000.

I have just come off the phone with NatWest and am a bit disappointed having been a customer for over 35 years, their advisor not really being interested in my problem. NatWest have paid a bonus for 12 months, but now says that the bonus is not currently available. I said that I would be looking for a better place for our money, but he wasn't bothered.

Can anyone point me in the right direction, so that we can make some interest to top up our pensions. we want easy access with no penalties.

    many thanx
    DD

I'm afraid thats what we all want so I don't think you will do any better than reading Martins articles on best savings rates etc. Retired with a mortgage! (maybe as it's offset the rule does not apply) but have you read the artical [FONT=&quot]"Pay off debts with savings. The golden money savings rule" under banking and saving above.

You will also no doubt cringe like me the next time you hear Nat Wet advertise themselves as the helpful bank. (Help themselves bank I call them)

  • You might want to look at using a Lloyds TSB Classic Current Account with the free Vantage add on as a savings alternative.

It pays 4% gross (so before tax) on balances £5k-£7k, as long as you pay £1k in a month.

If you're smart and juggle £1k between this and a Halifax Reward account (regardless of whether you use either account for anything more than this - could just send £1k from your LTSB account to your Halifax account and then immediately back again) you can end up earning 4.05% Net (so after tax!!) on £7k a year. Almost unheard of rates on effectively instant access accounts. That's better than any savings product I've seen on the market, even Cash ISA's.

It's a bit of a faff, but if you just want to use the LTSB account as your main account, pay in your salary (over £1k a month) and earn 3.2% Net on it all (up to £7k)
  • Hi Bob

Superb info about the Vantage account, I'm a Lloyds customer and the vantage account(s) are just what I'm looking for! Multiple applications in cyber-space as I type...

    Many thanks.
