Quasar's problem has been resolved EveryWhere, she told us all we needed to know and then did a sterling job in getting the old W7 lappy back up and operational. :j

If I can help my guess is your post, no matter of it's intent, the wording "Typical inertia, waiting for life to change you." comes over a little condescending in its reading.

Seriously, I've never seen anyone pat themselves on the back quite so much over a simple job.
Somewhat like an over-excited child. But let's put that aside.

I always encourage people to stretch themselves that little bit. To do things that they thought they couldn't do before and there are many here that do because of this.

So, yes, be pleased with yourself that you helped one person, but that is what we do here. It's no big deal, so calm down.

I don't understand what this has to do with anything. I also have old laptops with XP and 98.
It's just a simple, fun project. I have no idea as to what else may be wrong with it, as you haven't told us.

Please do not worry too much about it. I posted a question, I was helped very kindly, I'm satisfied. As for fun projects, allow me to choose my own fun. :)
Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.

    Not a problem. It's not compulsory. ;)

Guess that's how easily post's can be misread, the jumping for joy wasn't for me, I really don't operate that way. It was just a gesture to Quasar, who dealt with something she'd never been involved in and in her efforts learned something new, indeed as I understand helped a work colleague who had encountered the same problem historically There's learning for you ;)

Yes...that why people ask here and we help them.
Fitting an SSD and clean installing to it might be a newly acquired skill too...that they can pass on to others.
    Anyway....enough preening.
