I'm a she....Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0

The link to the Registry Edit that I guided Quasar to is below. It seemed the simplest way to get her to resolve the issue. The good news was she used it and it did resolve the Windows 7 User Profile logon service failure.
https://www.drivereasy.com/knowledge/fix-the-user-profile-service-failed-the-logon-issue-for-windows-7/
As I stressed in my post to Quasar, and would do with any user, anything to do with editing the registry has to be done precisely and with the utmost care.
Hope it helps others too.0 -
My bad Quasar
:rotfl: How could you have known?
Anyway, I have learnt something useful last night thanks to your help. Speaking to a friend, he said he has often had that problem at work, and it is good to know how to sort it out. Also, I learnt there is a good bank of knowledge on this site that can see a user through some hairy computer times.
Cheers.Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -
Thanks for this. I think I'll wait for the next laptop failure, since it is so old anyway, then invest in a new one. My desktop is my main computer anyway.
You should really try it now, instead of waiting. Typical inertia, waiting for life to change you.
I doubt that your laptop is older than the one that I am using now. But with a cheap SSD fitted it's a pleasure to use.
Mine is twelve years old this month. How about yours?
Not only that, but practising on an old device will give you the confidence to do these little jobs for yourself, instead of splashing out on a new device when not strictly necessary.
Once you fit an SSD, you will never want to use an old mechanical HDD in your devices again.
I would not be surprised if you fitted one to your Desktop soon afterwards.
So don't let your inertia hold you back.0 -
^^ This ..
I would suggest that its best practice to backup the registry before making any changes too.
Its as easy as file => export
I agree with what your saying and it is as simple as that. However in Quasar's issue the registry was corrupted and caused the problem, a backup would not have helped.0 -

Never mind inertia. You do not know enough about me, my work and what I do to or with my computers: I have two older laptops, one with XP and one still with window 98. I will soon get a new one anyway (my work place part-finances it) as this present one (the one I've been posting about here), has been dropped on the floor a few times and really needs a rest.Be careful who you open up to. I don't understand what this has to do with anything. I also have old laptops with XP and 98.
It's just a simple, fun project. I have no idea as to what else may be wrong with it, as you haven't told us.0 -

Quasar's problem has been resolved EveryWhere, she told us all we needed to know and then did a sterling job in getting the old W7 lappy back up and operational. :j
If I can help my guess is your post, no matter of it's intent, the wording "Typical inertia, waiting for life to change you." comes over a little condescending in its reading.0
