It was progress what done it, not the tories
I used to work in a town which employed 30,000 men in a steel works.
By the time I left that figure had gone down to 4,000 men
That decimated the town
But guess what? Production actually more than doubled
What does that mean?
It means when the company was state owned as British steel some 2,000 worked while 28,000 sat around doing nowt. Some of my older colleges would say man staff would come in for their shift just to sleep then go home.
The country got more productive thanks to thatchers reforms
And we enjoy a higher living of standing thanks to this
And yes there are still very very bitter people in that town who hate thatcher and the tories
I mean if I had a job that paid more than the national average for me to come in and sleep and thatcher took that away I guess I would be quite bitter too

it is much more significant than 3,500 jobs. You can get a pretty good idea of the economic impact as follows
200,000 cars x £25k average price x 70% value added in the uk / £40,000 = 87,500 jobs throughout the supply chains
and of course it is double important due to it impacting the balance of trade significantly too.
It will worsen by about £4billion annually in less exports and more imports

But then if some cannot see the bigger picture that will happen.
They are so blinkered in their hatred of Brexit that they don't see that a Japan/EU trade deal & the removal of tariffs combined with a changing market (the rise and rise of electrically-powered vehicles) would lead to not only a British but a global change in auto manufacturing.
Such people ignore Ford closing it's factory in France for example, using Brexit purely as a tool to promote a warped propaganda.
Why do they ignore the global closures and restructuring?

A little more on JLR in the Telegraph which says a new battery assembly factory will be built near Birmingham, with the Wolverhampton site seeing a setup for electric motor assembly:It is unclear when the UK's biggest car maker will announce details of the plans, but JLR has said it wants the Hams Hall plant to be operational and to be producing its own electric drives by next year.

You're either twisting what I said intentionally, or you just didn't read it.
I have never made any statements about where car manufacturing should be based.
I have pointed out that Brexiters claiming that we need to leave the EU to enjoy the sunny uplands of the mega growth of the Asian markets, and also saying that Honda is leaving because they can't sell to Asia and manufacture in Europe, is a silly logical fallacy. Like every other straw Brexiters clutch at as they stumble around trying to make it appear Brexit isn't the single worst thing to happen to the UK since the War, as they fail to compute the meaning of the latest awful piece of news they caused.
It's great that JLR is investing here. I hope half their parts being stranded in Dover for days come April doesn't put them off.0 -

I saw this week that British consumers showed "'amazing' stoicism before Brexit" with their confidence increasing in February.
How does it feel to be one of the few remaining hardcore anti-Brexit campaigners when you're on the brink of leaving the EU and by far the majority are either upbeat about that or are at least accepting, I wonder?0
