BMW had car (for recall) for 2 months and "Don't know when I can have it back"

  • Ok guys. Thank you to the people who genuinely tried to offer some help & assistance here. For what it's worth it doesn't matter what value the car was. What I can say is that if the car was worth £1 or £1 Million we worked hard for it and it ours. The whole point of the post was to ask others (who may well be more educated than us in matters such as this) for advice. Maybe some readers of this forum have seen this sort of thing before? Maybe some are legal professionals? Maybe some work at BMW dealerships and have seen such problems and have some good advice for us?. Help and advice is what we asked for. Nothing else. Therefore, to the people that posted the snide, sarky comments you've just been shamed by the people who took their own time to try and offer some constructive advice. How smug are you now?
MODERATOR, i'd be grateful if you would now close this thread. Thank you.

I think you might still be missing the point.

There are 1.6m cars waiting for these parts.
As soon as the flaw was identified, BMW Germany will have started to design, test, sign off, produce and distribute the parts.

Would you rather BMW UK had waited to notify you until the parts were available? What if the problem led to your car being damaged or destroyed by the issue before then?

Is there an inconvenience to you? Yes, clearly.
Are BMW Germany working as fast as they can to resolve it? Very probably, yes.
Have you actually spoken to BMW UK to see if they can give more detail than the dealer?
Is this minor collision anything at all to do with the recall or the delay? No.

I'm very sorry if you don't find that helpful or informative, but BMW UK are the only people who can give you any more information on where your car is in the queue. If they have it. Many people don't realise that their local BMW dealer is a completely different business to BMW UK.

Understanding the reality will help the OP to understand why there is a delay.

BMW cannot magically make 1.6m sets of parts appear in dealers the world over, overnight, the day after the problem is identified.

I wonder if the comments would be as spiky if the OPs car was not a £50k car, and a normal run of the mill Focus :undecided

Was a Focus some time ago (blimey you really did have to look - or is it just you are a fact hunt - er).

Current cars - chav wagon Chevrolet Orlando 2.0VCDi bought brand new in Jan 14 (when they were advertised for 12K). Next is a December 2015 TT Ultra which we bought new from Lincoln Audi.

Get back to your keyboard and argue some more :rotfl::A

My parents waited 7 months for a replacement dashboard for their 2016 Sorrento. It had to come from the factory as, apparently, 'they don't go wrong'. Logistics is just that unfortunately.

  • After reading this and the other BMW recall thread, I'm terrified. My mate had his EGR cooler or something along those lines replaced by his local dealer, it took him 7-9 days.

BMW drivers affected need to get organised and get together if they want any comeback on this. Get a facebook group together and go to them as a group making sure that the media are aware.

Well as expected I had to chase BMW on the hire car, which they've told me I'll get today. Apparently I'll only have to pay the £50 refundable deposit. They will try to replace like for like but I'm not sure I'll get anything remotely close to a 5 series with all the belts and whistles. Provided I get something reliable to get me through the next few days (I hope) I'll be relatively happy.
  • Managed to sort out a hire car. A Nissan Qashqai but it's manual so I'll need to re-adjust.

I've been told by BMW to not expect my car back for a while. Anywhere between 2 and 3 weeks is most likely.
