    Hi Penny Wranglers,
Started the day in a strop because I couldn't get through to the surgery to make an appointment despite a solid half hour of repeated attempts. Then decided that as I've been suffering with this problem since November, it's not a deal breaker even getting in this week. So I started my day again!
    *Did my.mid-month budget check-in.
    *Updated February grocery tracker sheets.
*Made a big fish pie - enough for today & tomorrow. A good use-it-up as the fish was an assortment of trimmings I froze when I divvied up our last Grimsby fish box, & I added a couple of leftover leeks - one sliced, sauteed & added to the filling & the other in the leek & potato mash topping.
*Picked a bunch of parsley from my herb bed.
*Made initial contact with a charity regarding house clearance. Sounds quite positive.
*Hung last night's cheaper tariff laundry outside & despite a massive shower, it got quite dry. Heated airer overnight will finish it off. Washer set on timer for Economy 7 again for final load of this week.
*mr f finished early & took me out for coffee & a deliciously calorific biscuit.
*Leaving downstairs heating off an hour longer tonight as it's only just starting to chill down.
*Two baths from one lot of hot water.
*Explained to cat that if he is as hungry as he's making out, he could finish eating what's in his bowl. Cat pretending to have selective deafness.
Intending a relaxing evening doing not a lot.
Wishing all fellow frugalistas a good start to this new week.
    F xx
2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
    2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!
  • Now I don't know whether to go to Pauper1 or foxgloves for my meal this evening both sound good to me.

    Hi February Fund Finders,

Evening!:coffee: W.e.e.k.e.n.d. I've been missing in action out in the real world again. But I'm ok, except for a random temperature I've developed. :o Essentially I've been out having fun ignoring my list. :p:p:p So now I'd better catch up.

Hugs to the physically and mentally poorly. :grouphug:

    Debt-Free-Nillionaire Continuity Plan Year Four:

    * Check online banking. Done.

    * Check DW's online banking. Eek £5 into arranged overdraft by accident for 3 days. That'll cost her 56p.

    * Check in on eBay selling. Done. Re-listed some stuff.

    * Continue my Challenge 500 miles challenge to travel 500 miles for free before the end of 2019: walking, hiking, climbing, cycling, running and swimming. Will walk. Walked 2.53km. That's 66.8/500 so far.

    * Make cheese with 4 litre of cow's milk (£1.12),1.5 tsp of citric acid and 1 tsp of not-Rennet. Done. This made 400g of Philadelphia-type cheese and an ice-cream tub of whey which I will freeze and add to soup next week. This cost me £1.20. The same quantity in Morrison's would cost me £4.38.

    * Freeze chicken stock from today's roast. Done. This will make soup next week.

    * Clear emails. Done.

    * Check loyalty points. Done.

“Everything will be okay in the end. If it's not okay, it's not the end.”

  • Evening all

Not done much as at work today (i work mon-fri so dont get as much done in the week as i would like)

Had a little visit to my friends this evening for an hour and i have been advising her how to live a bit more frugal shes doin very well!! I spent £5.80 at the S supermarket only got potatoes, bread breakfast bars and some reduced mini donuts....dd was very impressed and ate one box herself...well nearly i helped her out...a lot lol!!

So i am going to do a plan for tomorrow
•dinner for work done, meat out for dinner beef in ale sauce got everything in will put in the slow cooker for tea.
•dd staying at in laws tomorrow so oh will take her before the football is on AGAIN!!
•i am contemplating joining sw again i lost a lot of weight and felt better last year on it but £5 a week just seems like it could be spent elsewhere but i dont drink, gave up smoking at new year and i think maybe i should its not a lot a week but it is....if it were £5 for dd i would in a heartbeat but never on myself just not sure what to do!!
•plan for the weekend oh is at work and i wpuld like to do something nice with dd but no idea what? Ive already looked at the local libraries and museums and cant find anything decent

Anyway hope everyone who isnt feeling the best has a good nights sleep and hopefully tomorrow will be a lot better

    Sending my love!!
  • Morning all :hello:

Emzmom I think there is a sw board on here or at least a loosing weight one. Worth having a look before signing up, particularly if you have the books from before.

    My list today:
Move my work things into a bag DH found in the loft. I used to use it for work and don't know why I stopped really. Love shopping from home :D
Get something out of freezer for tea
    Hm veggie chilli for lunch
Last of washing away when smalls wake up
    Check banking and daily lotto
Updated my food spend sheet. Looking very healthy. Have been really focused since jan and am so pleased with how much I've been able to reduce it by. I know it won't last forever as I'll have eaten the random things that were lurking in the freezer but still all good for now :T staying out of the shops is definitely the key :D
    Reconcile just for points cc
Smalls been looked after by family so no holiday cover costs.

Have a good day all. Purps.

    Morning folks!

Emzmom - I'd say that if you've done it before and are aware of the principles, you could probably wing it - or do you like the accountability of the meetings? Could you find an accountability buddy? As PF says, there's some weight loss threads on MSE.
If you feel that it's worth it and you've given up smoking (well done by the way!!) then the money would have been freed up by that at least.

It's my Thursday today! Woohoo! Work ing 4 days is fab. As far as I'm concerned, my week goes Mon, Mon, Thurs, Fri, Sat, Sat, Sat :D

    Normal workday for me:
    • B/L/D from stores- done
    • OH to do housework- done
    • Put washing on rack as it's supposed to rain later - done
    • Charge phone in work - done
    • Gym at lunchtime - need to psyche myself up today - much better session than expected :)
    • Bit of crochet- done
    • No alcohol- done
    Nothing really doing

    Have a good one all

    Morning all,
    Hope everyone is doing ok.

I might get back on later with a list but if I don't....have a good day all

    12.30 UPDATE
All usual things done this morning like ys bread for breakfast, breakfast club and gym to make the most of my membership
    * scanned some important papers and filed them online so less paper clutter on the fridge
    * updated freezer inventory as our eating hasn't been great whilst short of time
    * written a little shopping list - very little 2 bottles of milk - as I can get them after a quick coffee with a friend
    * meet said friend and should be able to use loyalty points for my coffee (eaten before I go so as to minimise spends)
    * run the dishwasher & washing machine on quick washes and sorted
    * cut open our shampoo bottle as there is still plenty in there
Sticking with the "Small things" thread to keep up us on the straight and narrow.

    Morning Campers,
Doesn't starting off the day with a bit of hefty amphibian swallowing get one off to a good start? Am in a way better mood this morning & here are today's frugal efforts:
*Succeeded in securing a Dr's appointment for later this week - if I can get my hand sorted out, which has been dodgy since November, I can get back to full Foxgloves level of productivity.
*Successful phone call to charity re house clearance also - initial visit set up & hoping we will fall into the 'free service' category.
*Updated Green Flag policy with new vehicle details. Was amazed to discover a small refund due. Mut be because new car is 2 years newer.
*Sorted out the small forest of car insurance documents acquired because we changed our car just 8 days before our policy expired. Have printed out the correct docs & updated my budget spreadsheet with the new monthly amounts.
*Also input new water rates monthly amounts - another rise this year, but as we are veggie growers, have a big garden generally & mr f is a hippo with his baths, I am doubtful we'd save anything worthwhile on a water meter.
*Paid funds across to CC which was only used to maximise points for vouchers.
*Sorted out payment for 2019/20 garden waste collection bin. We have 5 compost bins & a worm composter but still use the council garden bin for nasty weeds & when (like now) our compost bins are all full & awaiting re-siting. Have paid by the cut-off point as late payers miss their first collection.
*L/O fish pie for tonight's meal so zero effort required there.
*L/O quinoa & avocado half will form the basis of my lunch.
    *Make packed lunch for tomorrow.
*Two baths from one lot of hot water (got to make up for some of the hippo's bath expenses somehow!)
*Small change rounded up for shrapnel pot.
*Did one competition, two surveys & one prize draw.
*Last load of this week's laundry done overnight on Economy 7 tariff. All pegged outside in the sunshine. Even if big things like jeans & towels get half dry outside this time of year, it cuts heated airer use by at least 50%, so worth pegging out whenever possible.
*Knit - would like to finish my 2019 Stash Knitting Challenge project #2 today if possible. Can't knit as much as usual though as my poorly hand is usually at its worst in the evening. But if Dr says I have to brace it when I see him later this week, I shan't be able to do much at all, shall I? So boo to that possibility, but I do desperately want it to get better so shall have to be fairly sensible.
OK, I think that's all my frugal bits for today. I must update my DFW diary, then sort out some lunch....& importantly see what cat is doing, as it's gone suspiciously quiet.
    Cheers all,
    F x
