My understanding is that all switches must be completed by 18th June.

A bit annoyed as I applied for 2 donor accounts from Halifax and Lloyds respectively (which I know are part of the same banking group). Applications were successful and even received my Halifax card but then received a text saying that the application for a current account was unsuccessful. Called up to enquire but they couldn’t really tell me much besides to wait for the letter with the explanation. Also happened to the rest of my family members so might be that they saw a few applications from the same household at around the same time and thought that was odd during their manual checks. Who knows? Not sure if this happened to anyone else. I already bank with Halifax so didn’t think I’d be rejected and that’s 2 other applications I could have made. Not sure if it’s worth going into branch?

By the way, is the 18th of June the last day for switching or the day when all switches should be completed by?

You'll get a letter that looks similar to this (it's normally a Hunter issue which would tally with your description of address matches, but can also be stage 2 credit checking):

You may note it's not much of an explanation!

Thanks for this. The advisors on the phone made it seem like the letter was going to be detailed. I guess I’ll just stay away from Halifax and Lloyds.

So many unanswered questions - how many people are we talking about, how do they relate, how many accounts did they apply for, when were the applications made, what devices were used for the applications, what is the status of any of their existing LBG accounts etc etc. As with all such cases, people on this forum can't really know what the reasons are as we don't, and can't, know all the details. I suspect, however, that it might have to do something with this.

I wasn’t trying to get reasons for the account closure, more just to vent and find out whether something similar happened to someone else as I’ve never been accepted for an account and then several days later have it rejected. I just find that odd. I’d understand if they rejected it when I first opened it but to send the card and then close it is weird. I would have thought any secondary checks would be done before any cards were sent out.

There are lots of threads discussing accounts being closed without warning by banks. I don't think your particular situation is unprecedented. Banks often aim to make a decision upon completion of the application - before they have all of the information they require - and once that decision has been made it is sensible for them to press on and issue a debit card, which will in any case take a few days to arrive, so as not to slow down the process for the majority of customers who do not go on to have the offer withdrawn.

You mentioned already banking with Halifax, so are they closing your existing account(s) as well?

No, existing bank account is still there and still able to use it. Hopefully that doesn’t change.

That's good news as it suggests your accounts aren't being closed for suspected fraud/money laundering etc. That would cause your existing account to be frozen immediately. The letter will tell you whether the existing account will be closed or not, if they do decide to close it you'd normally have about 2 months notice.
