Double my electricity usage

Apart from the obvious, as discussed above, why do you say your old house was cold? Could it be that you decided that since your new house is newer it 'must be' more energy efficient so you could afford to turn the heating up. If so, you're not comparing like with like.0

I can't access my current electricity account for accurate readings as there is a problem with the site. But to give you an idea of previous bills, in my old house I have a bill for a usage of 467kw over 62 days. My usage on my first bill before I changed my supplier was 859kw over 47 days.
My DD has nothing to do with anything. I am discussing my actual cost of electricity and high volume of unit used.
As per the boiler-the boiler unit in my utility room reads 00 except when it comes on for an hour in the morning, an hour at night, and when the heating is on. The utility room boiler has a programmable unit beside it. The heating is controlled by two thermostat units, one in the living room and one in the main bedroom.0 -
You need to read your meter several times a day and keep a diary. dunstonh's monitor can also help.
I don't think your consumption for a 5 bed house is exceptionally high.
Perhaps the question should be - why was my old house lower ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
Please try to understand how your water is heated and when you mention 467kwh, is that gas or electricity as you are all over the place.4kWp, South facing, 16 x phono solar panels, Solis inverter, Lincolnshire.0

You can't possibly compare one property to another, over different periods, unless the time of year is identical (and the weather). Remember that 80% of your total energy usage is in the winter months: reviewing it over 6 or 8 weeks tells you nothing.
Get your old bills out and calculate kWh usage going back a year if possible, or as long as you have been there.
Without this basic info, all is speculation. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

Your problem is that your daily figure for consumption in your previous property was very low - 7.5kwh per day in a 4 bedroom house is lower than the average consumption for all properties in the UK.
Your consumption now for a 5 bedroomed property is slightly high @ 18.4kwh/day - as a comparison I use (and have used for several years) 15.5kwh/day in a 4 bedroom property.
As per other posts the culprit could be an electric immersion heater topping up the hot water supplied by the gas boiler.0 -
I've just worked out consumption for my 3 bed. Averaged over the year, its about 12kwH /day. For a 5 bed house it would seem reasonable it might be around 15 or so.
So as said you arent wildly over, plus electric use should be marginally higher in winter, more lights on for longer. FWIW mine for the last 4 months only, is about 14.
So yours isn't wildly high. Seems to me,as someone else said, its more like, how come it was so low before.
And finally, please sort out whether or not you have an immersion and whether or not its switched on.
If you are on an estate with houses still being built ask the site office if one of the electricians can pop in for 5 minutes to show you.0 -
Worth checking if your lighting is the same.
Have they fitted LED bulbs or are the ceilings full of 25w or 40w halogen bulbs?0
