Anyway letter come a letter from e-on address to my name. And in great big bold red letter at the top of the page is quotes "please get in touch about your energy". Below that is a web site address and an 0345 number (no postal address or nothing). in the letter it says "what next, if you dont get in touch you will stay on our standard tariff and we will send you a bill in the next few weeks and youll need to pay it straightaway. we'll use estimated reading, so we ay bill you electricity and gas used by the people who lived in this property before". ( Does, "we av bill you" mean, we have billed you? Does the letter explain they had billed you for the previous occupants use but now know you are not responsible for it?)
Anyway a week latter another letter from E-ON arrived in the post addressed to my name, with "first electricity and gas bill(in bold) estimated. then if your actal reading are different to our estimates, go to the following web site or call our 0345 number, and a bill of 416.93 pounds. Then on the reverse of the bill is a meter reading of my gas and electric meters, written there is E=estimate. the reading there are far higher then the meter reading at the moment, and given the fact that they knew my reading from when the E-ON man came round they have indeed over charged me. Further more they will fully knew the reading and have delibutly over charged me. This is classed as deception to benefit ones self, and that in turn is classed as fraud!. yes E-ON HAVE COMMITED FRAUD!!! And under section 39 of the magna carta treaty fraud is a crime!
Asking you to pay a bill based on an estimate is not fraud. Any over or underpayments will be accounted for when actual readings are used.

I moved into a property/ flat last (late) october, which has pipped gas and electric and are bough on regular meters (not pre paid).
Anyway during this time I have had many letters arrive in the previus tenants name from e-on (which I have not opened). Finally a hand delivered letter came through the door address not to the prevuis tenant but to the ocupier. I opened this letter and say there was an outstanding bill for over 500 pound and an extra charge of 60 pound for the visit and if this amount was not paid then a court warrant would be issued to gain access to the property and remove the meters and replace them with pre paid meters. A name and contact number of the person who hand delivered the letter was at the bottom of the letter urging me to contact him.
I called him up, he said are you a new tenant, I said yes. He said I need to see a copy of you tenancy agreement and at the same time I will take a reading of your meters.
He came round took a reading from the meters and checked it off from the meter reading written on my tenancy agreement, he said you dont use a lot do you! He said we will send you out a welcoming pack, now if you think you are going to struggle with the bill he said just call us up and we can come round and fit pre paid meters so you know what you are using. I said my land lady said if I have a pre paid meter I will end up paying twice as much for it. He said it no more expencive then an standard meter, people just think it is because you have to pay a standing charge with it. So he left the building and that was it.
So at this point I want to make clear that I did not agree to these terms at all and the man from E-ON came round and took a reading. Also on this letter/ welcoming pack is a price tariff with the following......
Electricity: payment method, on receipt of a bill, unit rate 17.336p per kWh, standing charge 25.662 per day.
Gas: payment method, on receipt of a bill, unit rate 3.918p per kWh, standing charge 30.303p per day.
So as you can see from this chart I have been given, they are charging me a standing charge for having a standard meter anyway! not what the man who came round from E-ON said (implied). finally in this welcoming pack is a (as quoted) "E.ON general terms and conditions of supply for domestic properties" (terms and conditions contract) but there is no where for me to sing it and certainly no where for me to return it. So I have not agreed to this contact so therefore it dose not exest!
Anyway a week latter another letter from E-ON arrived in the post addressed to my name, with "first electricity and gas bill(in bold) estimated. then if your actal reading are different to our estimates, go to the following web site or call our 0345 number, and a bill of 416.93 pounds. Anyway I wish to switch gas and electric suppliers to a better and cheaper company, any ideas on how I go about this please!penny_pinchers wrote: »No I did not, nor was I requested to do so or obliged to do so too
Hello penny pinchers and welcome to the Forums. Already some good advice on here - thanks all.
I agree, there's no way you should be paying for energy used by someone else. We don't know when responsibility for a property changes and rely on the incoming/outgoing residents, landlords or their agents to tell us when this happens.
We've a Home Moves team who look after these changes. All they need is the date responsibility changes and meter readings for that day. They use this information to close the old account and open a new one for the incoming resident. This makes sure the billing is accurate and customers only pay for the energy they've used.
Totally understand, moving home is a busy time with lots to do. If customers can make a note of the readings, we're happy to take this information after the move and rebill accordingly. As well as by phone, there's a form on our website that can be used or there's our online Live Chat or Social Media channels.
As we weren't initially aware you had moved in, we'll have been sending bills addressed to the previous occupant. This changed when our rep visited and took details. Information from you and the Tenancy Agreement will have led to the Welcome Pack being sent.
It sounds like the reading the rep took was too early for the next scheduled bill. We use a billing window. Readings taken within this window are used for billing. Those taken outside are recorded but not used for billing unless specifically requested by the customer. I suspect this is why the estimate was sent. This can soon be sorted. All we need is accurate readings and we'll be happy to re-bill to these straightaway.
There are a few ways to let us have readings including online through our website, phone app or Live Chat service; by phone or text, email or letter. The more readings we have, the more accurate accounts are.
As we hadn't spoken to you, we'll have started you on our standard Energy Plan tariff. This becomes active as soon as energy is used. All our tariffs, including Energy Plan, have Daily Standing Charges. These are lower when paying by Direct Debit.
Not sure where the account stands now. As above, we'll be happy to rebill any estimated bills as soon as we've accurate readings. This will make sure we're only charging for the energy you've used.
Hope this explains penny pinchers. Let me know if I've missed anything as happy to help.

It takes special skills to be on the customer facing end of a business and deal with situations like the one we see here.
OP, you have the attention of the E.ON Company Rep on here. You may not want to believe it, but E.ON have one of the best reputations amongst the energy suppliers, so take advantage of their offer to sort things out. Contact them and take in what they say. If you can understand the Magna Carta (and its amendments), you will surely be able to understand E.ON's contract that you have unknowingly agreed to.
