What would you offer on this house?

My partner and I have decided we would like to make an offer on this house. Our concern, however, is selling it and we are away that the current owner is fine fairly desperate to sell it.
Does anybody have some feedback on whether we should go in significantly lower?

How is anyone going to know? Just offer what you think it’s worth. If you go in too low they will think you are time wasters.
DYOR on surrounding prices and sales and offer what you are comfortable with. If they are desperate to sell then yes of course try lower.
Crashy will probably post saying offer £50k as its not even worth that but he’s a known troll on here so ignore him.
Most people never accept the first offer as there is usually always a second one.0 -
Thanks for the information. As first time buyers, it’s all fairly new territory for us!just not sure if we’re shopping ourselves in the foot for buying a one bed.0

It seems very small. Can you stretch to a two bed?

Thanks.
Would £135k be realistic for that? Can’t really stretch much further... also does seem fairly cheap for a two bed in the area as I understand it is fairly desirable.0 -
I wouldn't buy it under any circumstances for this reason. The interior is such a poor design that it must be a conversion of a semi. Instead of converting it to flats they have converted it to two small one bed houses.
The bit of the design that completely puts me off is the fact that the living room is actually a corridor. It has two passageways across it. One from the stairs to the front door and another from the kitchen to the front door. Plus that living room is your fire escape from upstairs so if the property is filled with smoke you have a load of furniture at the bottom of the stairs between you and the exit. I can't understand how that conversion passed the building regulations. It looks like a potential fire trap to me.0 -
You could use your budget to buy a bigger property in a slightly less desirable area, live there for say 5 years to build equity, then move.0

I agree. I've just looked that post code up on zoopla (as zoopla shows property descriptions of houses that have sold) and can't see any other property on the road that is 1 bedroom.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. £100k? It seems super-small to me, even for a one-bed. But then, I know nothing about the local market or location, so ... y'know.
I guess the real questions are: what can you afford? What's the local market like? And how much do you want it?0 -
Factor-in that you will probably want to move out of it within a few years, and moving's never cheap.
If you can stretch to something that will do for longer, it will pay dividends in the future.0
