What meals to expect on a TUI long haul flight

We are going on a package holiday to Mexico in March by TUI flying on their Dreamliner aircraft It is a morning flight. Under law what meal do they supply free included in the holiday a or what do they have available to buy, it is over 10 hours flying time so we need to decide whether to take sandwiched etc. Anybody with any knowledge on this subject or in the "Know" your feedback on this subject will be appreciated.

  • On the flight to Mexico we got a lunch about 2 hours after take off and another lunch style meal about 2 hours before landing. From memory Mexico and Jamaica were both pasta/ chicken style dishes. On the flight home you got an evening meal and then a breakfast style wrap or omelette/breakfast.

You could take sandwiches or similar but I tend to find something like crisps is sufficient to pass the time. They usually have pringles etc to purchase if needs be but I’d buy from boots or similar.

I don't think there's any law that states they have to feed you onboard, let alone what that has to consist of.

As above, expect a hot meal within a couple of hours of departing, and then something else before landing. This can vary based on airline - but even on most flag carriers now the second meal will be some sort of sandwich/hot wrap rather than a full meal.

If you're particularly worried then probably worth investing £4 in a Boots meal deal to take - more choice and invariably better quality than anything that's been kept and reheated onboard.
  • Yes agreed. By law nothing that states they have to provide you, I.e Norwegian air doesn’t include meals on long haul as standard and as far as I am aware Thomas Cook don’t on flights to Vegas unless you pay (may be wrong though).

Long and short you are fed, I always take snacks mostly because I get bored. We are currently in Mauritius, in the way out, TuI Dreamliner, I got a vegetable curry and an omelette wrap. But we had a night flight so obviously one was in place of breakfast.

A friend of mine got the 0940 TOM182 from Manchester to Cancun the other day. She didn't take any food, and so far as I know had no need to complain.

When we flew with TUI to Mexico we had a 3 course lunch, then a few hours later they bought round ice creams and a couple of hours after that we were served sandwiches and a scone with jam and cream. The food was pretty good, I don't normally eat airline food but this was ok.

There's a reason why airlines serve pringles rather than crisps on planes- crisp packets expand to bursting in the lower pressure, so if you take crisps puncture the bag slightly before you get airborn

I am sure they vary from one airline to another. We went on a TUI package and got one main meal choice of two (veggy and non veggy) which was edible but was rather plastic tasting,.Also one snack with a wrap or sandwich.about 3 hours from the end of our long flight. You had to pay for all your drinks. We always take a roll each, maybe a mini pork pie and a packet of crisps just in case. Also a small plastic bottle each, which we fill up free with water airside at Gatwick airport.
  • Virgin included all drinks, including alcoholic and quiite decent meals. TUI one main meal sub standard no drinks, Thomas Cook snacks.
  • Just make sure that it isn't a flight that is being serviced by Yorkshire Airlines for TUI, as their food offering isn't good.

The experience of posters above you seems to suggest it will be a meal AND a snack with TUI. Thomas Cook provide a meal including a non-alcoholic drink too.
