Good effort for a wind up. 8 / 10Mr Generous - Landlord for more than 10 years. Generous? - Possibly but sarcastic more likely.0

Yes, but the bedspread soaks up and holds onto the water making the load much heavier during the all important rinse and spin stages and knackering the machine. The bedspread didn't get heavier. The water in it would have weighed the same as if you were washing a pair of knickers.
Still the OP's own fault though

Sorry but you made the mistake, I bet the office had a giggle when you tried to claim compensation for your own balls up.
Sometimes in life you make mistakes that cost money - unfortunately this is one of them!0 -
Op may have a case. The manufacture should put a warning on the Duvet saying how heavy it is when wet and that domestic washing machines cant take the load.
Common sense really, can no one but me and the OP see that?0 -
What Duvet? The OP says it's a bedspread, which is a different thing entirely.Op may have a case. The manufacture should put a warning on the Duvet saying how heavy it is when wet and that domestic washing machines cant take the load.

And add to that would make the load non symmetrical which is where the damage probably occurs. My washer will stop and moan if that happens.0 -
I would have thought a £15 bedspread would have been pretty thin to start with ! adding water would have not made it any heavier than a normal load .This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Should I sue Ford if my husband puts the alternator of the car he is rebuilding in my washing machine to get all the muck off it and it damages it?
If not, why not? After all, there is nothing written on the alternator advising that it shouldn't be cleaned in a domestic washing machine.0
