OP, I think you'll find that the meter is already there. The previous occupants may have been on RV billing still for some reason, but once fitted, a meter is not removed-it's simply disregarded. Unless they removed it themselves, which would be illegal. Have you looked?

Well you might like to consider that Welsh Water is still in public ownership and was never privatised.
So it's not surprising that as usual the wasteful public sector is costing more than the private sector equivalent.
As it ever was in the days of publicly owned British Rail, GPO phones and the rest.
I'm in Thames Water's region and have relatives with Welsh Water and they pay far more than me for the same volumetric adjusted amount used.
The sooner Welsh water is privatised the better.

How many miles of pipeline do Welsh Water maintain, and how many miles is that per household they supply?

Then how does that compare to Thames Water?

After all, I’m sure you did work that out before insisting that one was so much more efficient than the other.

Not only that Welsh water was, and is, a private company. Despite assertions otherwise it was privatised in 1989.

The owners went bust and it's been bought out by a private, not for profit, company.
  • I've been considering a water meter for a while. At almost £60 per month on rateable value, it's expensive. That's with United Utilities. I think, reading the costs on here, that I may well take the plunge.

After all your advice, and because it’s a legal obligation 😂, I booked to get a water meter.
I was supposed to get it fitted on Saturday but they have cancelled and rescheduled for 1 months time and aren’t charging me until it’s fitted.
    So win win really!

    Thanks for all your advice!

When I say legal obligation, I mean the house I bought had a water meter fitted in 2000 and the previous owner must have removed it. By law anyone who owns this house needs to have a meter fitted by law.
