I received a further text saying "Sorry there was a mix up with your RPI SMS yesterday, here is what you should have received - We're updating your Terms and Conditions to include a yearly review of your monthly fee in line with RPI, rising 2.5% in 2019."

I have submitted a compliant to 3 and received the following response:

"I'm sorry you feel we've let you down. Our intention was not to disappoint you at any time. I can understand that you are upset about the recent increase in your price plan and want to make a complaint about the same.

I can understand how important it is to manage our day to day expenses and keeping our budget in control.

Retail Price Index (RPI) is a widely-recognised measure of inflation published monthly by the Office of National Statistics in the UK. It's used by many industries as a guide on whether to adjust prices, and by how much.

Like many other mobile operators, our pay monthly plans are subject to an annual price increase in line with the RPI rate of inflation published by the Office of National Statistics. From May 2019, you will see an increase of 2.5%. We'll be contacting impacted customers from 25 March.

You can find information about RPI in our Terms and Conditions for us Three Network.ing the

Paragraph A of the Quick Summary section on Page 1 provides an overview of how we apply RPI to your accounts and includes a helpful illustrative example, which explains how the increase works. This is also reflected in Clause 4.1 of our Terms.

For more information, you can visit this link http://www.three.co.uk/terms-conditions/paym-and-payg and you can download the PDF entitled "Our current Pay Monthly Terms & Conditions".

    I hope this helps.

Don’t forget to reply to this email within 28 days to tell us if you're happy to accept this resolution so we can take care of this for you.

So basically she completely ignored what I wrote and just copied and pasted a generic email they have.

Presuming a SIM only contract is referred to it does as Three will no longer honour the terms of the contract.

Only if they don't have an RPI increase in their t&c.

From the Three text, linked to a letter:

As the variation to your Terms include a material change to your monthly charge each year, you are entitled to cancel your agreement with us without incurring a cancellation fee. This is subject to you giving us notice to do so within 30 days of the date of this letter. To give notice to cancel please call 333 from your Three phone or 0333 338 1001 from another phone.
    Just so you know.

Thast only usually applies to those who stray outside their bundle so the effective rise is more than the RPI.

The option to quit without penalty applies to pre Dec 13th 2018 contracts that had T&C conditions (no RPI annual increase) which are now being changed to add an annual RPI increase. Hence the ability to exit early, penalty free. The link below is sent to those with a pre: 13 Dec SIM only contract:
