    Try Foxit Reader too - starts quicker & less 'bloat'. G
  • acrobat 8 is free anyway, you only pay for the version that converts documents into pdf, a pdf converter is also built into photoshop btw

    Bit misleading. The free version is called "Adobe Reader", not Acrobat. The Acrobat name is now only used for the paid version pdf creator.

    I tried to download "Adobe Reader" - it would not install saying it could not remove a previous version - any ideas?

    You could try Foxit suggested earlier. Also check the add/remove programs and see if there's any Adobe Reader listed there and try uninstalling it if there is.

    You could try Brava Reader, also free and quite neat.

    There is Adobe Reader 7 there tried to uninstall but it wont let me.
  • what does it say when you try to uninstall reader 7? Did you reboot your computer after trying to install version 8 before trying to uninstall 7?

    Yes I did reboot - it said something like the patch could not be found
