Years ago when our kiddies were young and we were skint my mum paid for a caravan for a week in Cornwall for us. Which was lovely but we had to find the spending money plus petrol money to Devon which we couldn’t really afford. Good intentions eh.

Its a lovely but we are staying in a B&B so no cooking facilities to save money either! X
  • Quick update! I am still in track!! £130 made from side hustled so far. Stayed within budget (just!) When shopping and only need to get some cheap black trainers for PE. I will need to get more trousers at end of September but shorts are fine for now.

Money in a separate account for this weekend (wish me luck staying in budget!) And we are all packed for an early stsrt! Boys are very excited.

Have a lovely bank holiday xx

Morning BB50 :) Lovely to see you posting again and a big well done for returning when it would have been much easier to just give up after everything that's gone on.

I'll just give my two-penneth on a couple of things - passing uniform down is fine, no need to feel guilty about that. You're saving your money and helping the planet. I think the tide is turning slowly and people are becoming more aware we don't need new every time - from a financial and environmental point of view.

The 'free' holidays make me smile. Friends wanted us to fly aborad to celebrate their silver wedding when DD was little and offered to pay for her flight genuinely thinking they were doing us a favour. Erm, there's still me and hubby, accommodation and spends to find. Their £150 was just a drop in the ocean. We didn't go by the way and things were never really the same between us again but that's life.

I think putting money to one side for some jewellery is a good thing to do. As you say nothing can be replaced but that shouldn't mean you lose out totally. Choosing something you know you'll wear is a lovely tribute to your nan and Gran. I have jewellery and have told DD to sell it and buy something she likes. I'd rather that than it be stuck in a cupboard somewhere.

Your side hustle name makes me laugh. I have visions of you wearing sunglasses and a trench coat that you open and say "wanna buy a watch".

Right, that's enough waffle from me, have a lovely Bank Holiday weekend. Great to see you back and sounding so positive. xx

    Lovely to see you again!

What a horrible time you've had but you've really made the best of it.

I don't buy new uniform each year, I just replace what needs replacing. I make use of the second hand uniform sales too throughout the year.

    Hope you've had a lovely weekend :)

Thanks jwill - it's great to be back. My youngest tried his uniform in this morning and looked fab and only the polo was new but you wouldn't know it! He was so proud and wanted to wear it all day!

Weekend was lovely - the weather makes such a difference. Hope you had a good one too? Just had a catch up if your diary and sound s like you did! Xx

I think the tide is turning slowly and people are becoming more aware we don't need new every time - from a financial and environmental point of view. Very true. Anyway it's too late now - boys are all sorted and most is either being reused by the eldest or passed down to the youngest :D

    Hello BB50,

I saw your post on HappyNow’s diary and thought I’d pop over to your diary to how you’re getting on. I’m sorry that you have had a difficult time – I know how horrible it is to be burgled. I hope all the bad stuff is behind you now.

I think it is a good idea to start with a couple of things when you want to make changes – keep it simple and you will succeed. I started drinking more water a few years ago and found it difficult initially but eventually it became part of my regular routine. Now it is a habit and I don’t even think about it.

Well done on the debt reduction and good luck with your 5 year plan.
