Andrew Hunt Estate Agents Crawley

Has anyone had any experience of Andrew Hunt Estate Agents or Gatwick and Crawley Rooms Limited. My partner has recently used the benefit of hindsight in relation to a transaction for letting a property via Gatwick and Crawley Rooms Limited.
Please see below email sent today to Crawley Local Authority.

It is absolutely shocking to me that a business of such a despicable nature as Andrew Hunt Estate Agents and Gatwick and Crawley Rooms Limited is given the freedom to abuse new and existing residents of the Crawley community.

The nature of their abuse is well documented online.

Please take action!

Regrettably I feel the need to add to the stock of complaints relating to Andrew Hunt Estate Agents and the business operated by{Edited by Forum Team}, Gatwick and Crawley Rooms Limited, which operates from a desk within Andrew Hunt Estate Agents.

My partner responded to an advert on Airbnb for a modern two bedroom/two bathroom apartment. He made contact with Gatwick and Crawley Rooms Limited and more specifically {Edited by Forum Team}, in November 2018. As an engineer who lives in Merseyside and works in Gatwick Airport he was unable to view the property (due to work commitments and time restrictions) and placed trust in the agent. A well documented email conversation took place between {Edited by Forum Team} and my partner regarding his property requirements, this resulted in my partner making a payment in excess of one thousand pounds to Andrew Hunt Estate Agents (evidence of this payment can be provided upon request). In the early hours of 3rd December 2018 my partner arrived at a property which was not as described. 223 Three Bridges Road is a run down house and not the modern two bedroom apartment described. He was so horrified at the condition of the property he emailed a complaint at approximately 3:30am that morning. He liaised with Gatwick and Crawley Rooms Limited and advised that he would not be staying at the property and requested a full refund on the basis that the property provided was not the one described. Despite several attempts a refund has not been provided.

Since that time, I have taken every opportunity to investigate both Andrew Hunt Estate Agents and Gatwick and Crawley Rooms Limited and I have been utterly shocked at what I have discovered. There are huge numbers of complaints registered over a number of years about both businesses and {Edited by Forum Team} and their inappropriate practices, including but not restricted to overcrowding, health and safety breaches, fraudulent advertising, appalling customer service and failures to comply with the governments deposit scheme. I fail to understand how these businesses are allowed to operate with such clear evidence of their abusive behaviours.

I think it is of the utmost importance that the local authority take steps to protect its current and future residents against the nefarious practices demonstrated by both{Edited by Forum Team}

Your attention to this matter would be much appreciated.

Thought you dealt direct with airbnb. Why was he dealing with an outside agency? They explicitly tell you not to pay via any other means

In forums, cryptic comments don't work very well - people have to guess what you mean, and it's easy to guess wrong.

I guess you're referring to the payment, and you mean that your partner bypassed Airbnb and paid the agents direct.

Also, do you think you're writing direct to Martin Lewis? You realise this is a forum and not read by him? Not sure what 'action' or 'attention' you expect

    Legal action for libel?
  • I hope writing the letter made you feel better. I am afraid any expectation that it will change things might be a little over optimistic.

Your partner will have to pursue them through civil action, and be prepared to escalate to actually get his deposit back. But there is no guarantee his court case will be successful.

Obviously a hard lesson has been learned here. Check photos, check a company if renting from one before paying any money. Check social media as well. Its the only way to ensure you will be getting what you are expecting.

So presumably your husband still has the keys for said not up to standard property.

If someone had my 1k and I had their keys I would be watching the bank transfer take place before handing the keys back whilst refusing to budge from the office
  • Thanks for the responses and no I didn’t believe I was writing to ML, I copied an email into my thread sent to the local authority which I did mention.

My partner’s payment is recoverable from the credit card company. My post was simply made to establish if anyone else had come across this unscrupulous agent.
  • Please anyone reading do not EVER EVER EVER get roped in by this company. They are the worst estate agents you could ever come across. They rob people of their money and they will rob you. I went for a viewing and paid the deposit to take the room off the market, the very same day I rang up to say I could not continue with the room because of unforeseen circumstances and asked for my deposit back or at least the majority of it. Legally they have to give back the deposit minus any costs they incurred but they refused to give back the full £250 that they robbed from me. SERIOUSLY GUYS DONT GO FOR THEM, WHEN I RANG THEM TO TRY AND GET IT BACK THEY WERE RUDE, PUT THE PHONE DOWN AND INSISTED THE MANAGER HAD LEFT THE COUNTRY THEY ARE A TOTAL AND UTTER COMPLETE SCAM!!!!!!!!!!!!

I live a mile from that address, three bridges is desirable as it is main line to victoria, fast train to london is 30 minutes and that street is 5 mins from station.
