:8080 is the port your computer is trying to connect through. For most people it tends to be :80. You may need to check the connection settings in your browser and see what they say. For most people they shouldn't have any manual settings put in.

    I don't know:confused: i did'nt type it i just clicked a board link,here's another i got when i was logging out:
With the state MSE forums in I wouldn't worry too much.
Maybe it's just a temporary problem or MSE/you are having a bad day !!

Switch off your computer, reboot everything & start again.
I wasn't able to login to Hotmail for few days using Intenet Explorer, could login using Firefox, everything else working ok.

After few days when I rebooted, could login to Hotmail.
Who knows what problem, Hotmail or my Pc.

That's what's a bit strange. It'd be easier to diagnose if it happened with every site but extending what peter999 said maybe you could try deleting your cookies and temporary internet files etc. Assuming you're using Internet Explorer, Tools>Internet Options>Delete (under browsing history).

  • It's great to see some of the old posts have now come back. :) I just thought I'd let you know that the list of members with permission to include links in their signature isn't up-to-date - I've got permission for mine & I know of other members who have too, but they & I don't appear on the list. :(

Seeing port 8080 indicates a problem within the MSE site's Squid reverse proxy cache server. It's not something you can fix on your own computer. Reloading the page may get you sent to another server and may work around it.

For non-techies, web sites often have their own equivalent of a browser page cache, called a reverse proxy server. Those can be of value either to hold pages or pieces of pages so they don't need to be regenerated or to handle sending bits of pages out to you at slow DSL and cable connection speeds so that the web servers can move on to the next request more quickly. They can also be used to spread the load of queries over several servers. Squid is one of the most popular makes.

ISPs may also have cache servers but the giveaway in this case is the error message, which is saying it's from MSE's internal server.
