How do you know I am middle aged? OK, I am but I am still 27 on the inside :-)

Correct, I don't have a performance car but I do enjoy the performance that my car has to offer. (And I have motorcycles!)

You are right, this is money saving website - that's the whole point. You have invested a lot of money in buying a performance car. You are paying S3 levels of tax, insurance, maintenance and all the other running costs associated with running a performance car yet, by your own admission, you are driving around at 60 mph. In the interest of money saving go buy a Ford Focus, save a fortune on running costs and use 80% its capabilities instead of 30% of the S3's. You can then buy another S3 when you can afford to put fuel in it. Or better still an M2 which is proper fast :-)

Hell he could get an S-line A3 with the right pack and get something that looks cool but runs more efficiently fuel wise.

OP did you keep the S3 badge on the car or did you order it badgeless?

This poor man has come to this forum asking for help and what's happened?

He's been called a granny, a skinflint, a maths also-ran, and an amber gambler.

All he wants to do is save a bit of money by driving ten mph under the speed limit in a straight line enjoying his nice car with the windows open.

    And he get this.

OP, you buy what car you like, if you enjoy it and can afford it then why not

The only suggestion I can make is either contact your local Audi dealer and ask them or try the Audi forum, although as others have said, if the manual says it’s ok, then you should be fine.

Also why not have a word with the likes of AmD tuning. Having visited them I don't think you'll get random thoughts and guesswork!
Funnily, i've been pondering a small Caddy sized van to facilitate a side project i'm going to work on. I havent seen much movement yet, but in theory markets like pickups and vans are likely to be hit by the upcoming downturn.
Would be interesting to hear if anyone has direct experience?

Why? So you can argue with them?

    Oh great .

No slower than the lorries in the left hand lane. And when he sees the signs for layby roses and actually has time to stop for them he will be the one laughing while you cry.
  • If conserving fuel to this extent is so important to you, you could just buy a more economical vehicle.

Almost - it can't under-read by law, but it can over-read up to a point (ie: it can tell you that you're going faster than you are, but not that you're going slower than you are).

Most speedometers are deliberately set to over-read by a fraction

I know that but didn’t want to tax the OPs brain too much.

And now you understand, OP, what I discovered from a similar Thread a couple of years ago: it leads to every "expert" expounding upon their latest theories about the machine on their drive or in their garage. Then expanding that theory to fit every other engine in cars they have maybe read about in some glossy magazine.

I was lucky enough to get a car which had been used as a demo* model for a Motability dealer. It has a 1600 engine, 125bhp, twin cams,12 valves and a 6 speed auto box. Its acceleration is completely bonkers for what it is, but I use it rarely. However, I have shocked more than one 'fast car' driver by pulling away from his tailgating at a great rate of knots. Because it has a knock sensor that changes the valve timing and can use Super fuel such as Shell v-power, I have used that since first fill up. It is a very smooth engine and returns me between 30 and 35 mpg in normal use, 40+ on a long, constant speed run. I love it.

*The motability agent who found me this car, told me that dealers often get 'specials' to impress motability drivers on road tests. I have no proof that this is true, but I have listened to someone local with (apparently) the same model. He does not get the same acceleration.

OP, it is all down to personal choice. If it is your perception that your car is better using Super, then use it. There will always be too many conflicting opinions here about this topic.
I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.
