Printer that works without internet

Clarification needed: Do you mean to say your sister has ME (as in the disease) and you're not referring to the laptop running Windows ME, the operating system? Because you're going to be stuffed to find a printer for that version of Windows if that's the case.0

Thanks for the offer robisere but I am in south Lincolnshire,a bit too far to come.Nice thought though.0

OK then in theory you could download the driver necessary and copy it to a USB stick, however can you tell us which version of Windows she has you may need to check whether the printer is supported on her version, oh and what PC has she got model and maker, it may have wireless and then she won't necessarily need USB . At least she isn't being subjected to the vagaries/nastiness of the web
EDITED: Also she may be able to set up a printer using ethernet too. Does she need colour also?4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . Aint no sunshine ☀️ Octopus gas fixed dec 24 @ 5.74 tracker again+ Octopus Intelligent Flux leccy0 -
Thanks again.I had what they call a light bulb moment when I woke up.Why I couldn't see it earlier I don't know.I realise it is an old laptop with,I think, either Windows XP or Vista.Because she has never used it on the internet(though the previous owner did) it has worked well,as has the printer. Now she is trying to match up an old operating system with a brand new printer. And of course, because she hasn't got the internet she can't look for the driver for it.
I can see the only way round it being bringing both to me,and searching for a driver.Would it then work back at hers? I assume it would?0 -
Sorry Neil, yes she has M.E. the illness and is often too unwell to do much at all.The internet would be a step too far for her to grasp.I believe the laptop has Windows XP or Vista,I will check tomorrow when I go round.0

I think even XP can plug & play most basic printers and if not you can set it up manually.
I doubt the latest printers on sale go to the bother of posting XP drivers so it may be a case of just taking a chance, don't install the ink and see if laptop recognises the printer.
Is colour needed? If not, mono laser printers are very reliable.
Its possible your sister is paying for a BB connection even if she is not using it so it might be possible for you to set it up with a spare router just for your use when you are helping her.0 -
Thanks Tom.She does use the colour inks but if it was a case of having to only have black, then she would.I will look into that.I have already suggested we search for a second hand one, that may be the best option.0

One thing to remember with your "bring it round to mine.. download" is that the first time XP/similar is connected to the Internet it'll go "Oh, hello .... there's a world of updates out there... I MUST have them" and will want you to give it the OK to spend the next 3-4 hours downloading/installing stuff you/she never wanted.0

Ah thanks,I never thought of that .Maybe not the best idea as it will be pointless anyway !0

Thanks, but no she isn't,no broadband to the property. She lives with our elderly Mum,who wouldn't really entertain the idea anyway!0
