Hi all
I currently use my desktop as my laptop just seems so slow when opening multiple tabs. I was wondering how many people use a laptop and find it ok, and what laptop do you use.
I am considering getting a new laptop just as I hate facing away from the world at my desk in the corner.

I found it difficult on a laptop, especially with a trackpad.
I currently use my gaming PC with dual monitor set up. One for gaming.... one for entering comps whilst matchmaking lol!Jan £162 / Feb £???0 -
I have dabbled with a laptop but prefer using a desktop with a good sized monitor and proper mouse as it's easier to get the appropriate distance/height for the keyboard/monitor which helps to avoid RSI etc.0

glad it's not only me then, my daughters say I hog the computer (and they would be kinda right lol). I did dabble with just doing my dailys on laptop but with it being a few years old it's just too slow. Thanks to everyone that posts :T:money:

Desktop with a big screen for me - I'm much quicker on a desktop than a laptop :-)Best win ever: Trip to the Galapagos Islands in 20100

I used a desk top for years and then I was given a Chrome Book and haven't looked back. I've added a USB mouse as I'm not too keen on the track pad but use both for variety to help keep the RSI away. I do get RSI if I use the same method continually but find that mixing pad and left hand/right hand mousing helps a lot.
The Chrome Book is really quick with almost instant boot up and no problems with multiple tabs but the downside for some people may be being limited to Chrome browser but for comping it's no problem.
And, of course, I can take the Chrome Book anywhere there is wi-fi and carry on comping.
I still have a desk top but rarely use it.0 -

I used to always use an ipad for comping, but have started to comp more using a laptop recently. I've got a 10 year old Dell, but it's still speedy! Well it takes about 10 minutes to turn on and off :rotfl:, but for actual use it's still speedy and can happily open/run hundreds of tabs and multiple browsers all while streaming TV/radio/music and running other things in the background. It has a 17" screen (which I'm used to, so wouldn't really want to have a smaller one) and sits on a stand slightly elevated on an angle (which raises the screen to eye level) and as far back on the desk as a desktop monitor would fit. The keyboard then sticks out far enough (because of its large size) to type in a very comfortable position because of the angle/elevation (difficult to explain, so probably sounds uncomfortable!). I've never liked track pads (they make my fingers hurt!), so I use the same wireless mouse as I would on a desktop.
Of course all this means that the laptop spends its time permanently on a desk, so I'm basically using it like a desktop anyway! I'm looking out at the world though because of the position of my desk, window, general room shape, so not facing away in a cornerthen if I want to be portable I just use my iPad

I use a 3 year old Lenovo Yoga ultrabook/laptop. It has an SSD card which makes it fast to log on and off, and speedy browsing. Also has a touchscreen, which means you can easily scroll up and down, without touching the mousepad or keys.
Would definitely recommend, although the 15" screen means that occasionally I have to maximise screen to see full view.
Good luck with your choice.0 -
Another vote for a Chromebook here.
I've had mine a few years now and because of the nature of the device it's still just as fast to use.
The battery has degraded a little, but nowhere near as bad as with a laptop.0 -
I'm interested in this thread as my laptop is falling apart at the seams. I'm not very techy, so can someone please explain in layman's terms what is the difference between a chromebook and any other laptop. Thanks.0
