This used to work but not sure nowadays as apple are so hot on security they think your device belongs to them and not you!

    1. Make sure your iPad is off.
    2. Connect your apple usb cable to your Pc but don’t connect your device to the cable yet.
    3. Open iTunes on your PC.
    4. Press and hold your iOS device and whilst continuing to hold the Home button plug the cable into the iPad.
    5. Connecting the device should cause it to turn on, but continue to hold the Home button.
    6. A message should appear in iTunes telling you that a device in Recovery Mode has been detected.
    7. Restore your iOS device By using IOS Recovery Mode.

There are other methods but lets see if this gets you anywhere first. Meanwhile I stand corrected if it doesn't.

Won’t help, activation lock survives any reset or restore. As soon as an attempt to activate the device after restore is made it will require the Apple ID and password that was last signed in (if the owner didn’t sign out before the device was restored or reset).

The only way to get passed activation lock is to sign in with the last activated Apple ID or conclusively prove ownership to Apple.

Oh for god-sake less of the Device belongs to Apple. In what way does having high level of security make the device belong to Apple.

They tell you ways to help you reset and recover locked devices but you have to meet them half way and take responsibility and know some basics.

I certainly do not want a security level set to the lowest possible setting because of people giving their devices away without first unlocking and resetting the device or clever thief's phoning up customer support and giving a bullsh** story to circumvent security checks.

Not suggesting you, john22, or anyone else would want a low level of security. Just happens that we have different opinions, such is life and forums.

Having different opinions is good but when that opinion implies Apple don't want you owning their devices due to security procedures. Which does not even make sense then i have to give a counter argument to it incase others come across this thread.

Sorry but I didn't imply due to security reasons, it wasn't my intention. But they will gladly disown you and the product for the simple reason you forgot your ID, even though you can prove it is yours.

None of this of course helps SnowyOwl out of his predicament.

I will file that under 'I don't care what you think"

    Whatever...
  • When I recently off loaded an old iPad thing, the shop I sold it to insisted that it was unlocked and was checked it was wiped clean. They would not accept it unless this was done.

I suggest you take it back to the girl/person you bought it off and get your money back!

I think maybe you have misunderstood BoP.

The owner is eldery (possibly related to the OP) and has forgotten the login details.

Activation lock requires the users apple ID and password not the passcode.
Even at 80 you should know what email you used for your apple ID (and usually the activation lock gives half of this as a reminder) you can then speak to apple they should be able to reset the password for that account with some basic information. You dont need to prove ownership of the ipad as its locked via the appleID and not a passcode

If it is asking for a passcode then you have not factory restored it correctly

I didn't factory restore it, the "genius" in the Apple shop did.

We are stuck with a useless iPad now, no way back in due to forgotton details.
