I inboxed them on Facebook yesterday as they'd sent an unbelievable bill for £272 for January. My original agreement was set at £125 back in August 2019. I received a call from them around 4.30pm today and they've agreed to set my payments fixed at £130 from now but I have to contact the bank myself to get them to decline the request for £272 due out on Thursday. Apparently they can't stop that from their end as it was past the" 4pm deadline" and already set to be taken.
I'll have to go into LLoyds tomorrow with the wife as it's her account and she will tie herself in knots trying to explain what needs to happen over the phone. Just need the bank to decline the £272 but not to close the DD setup by Symbio.
£130 a month will see me just right going by previous usage, I previously was with Yorkshire Energy paying £140 monthly and finished the contract £240 in credit.

There is no process I am aware of for a bank to stop a single future payment at your request. Your only option would be to cancel the DDI completely, and even then it may be too late now to stop Thursday's collection, I don't know.
Doing that will obviously stop all future payments to that supplier (unless/until you set up a new DDI)

The best option is to wait until the money is taken, and then ask the bank for an immediate refund.

If the taking of the £272 will cause additional fees (e.g.overdraft fees), then that is what is known as consequential losses. These can also be recovered from your bank, but you may have to wait up to 14 days for these, as the bank will claim on your behalf (when requested) from the supplier.

According to a reply from Symbio on another website they are suggesting customer are complaining for the sake of getting compensation.

    Quote

We do not ignore customer concerns, but it is sometimes difficult to find a resolution if we do not have their initial query. Using xxxx site as a means to raise their concerns are not always helpful as we do not know who exactly we are dealing with.

We have had customers who use xxxx site mainly to obtain compensation (which itself is a means of cyber bullying with the aim to damage the company’s reputation) and hence contacting us directly with their concerns would be more efficiently dealt with.

Please note that if you have contacted us with your query, a member of the team with be in touch with you within the next 72 hours or where possible earlier.
Symbio Energy has been the cheapest supplier in the industry for the past 7 months and our aim is to ensure that customer services remains the core of our business.
    unquote.

Well dear Symbio I am still awaiting for a reply to how you worked out my bill. You really take the biscuit.

Symbio have already acknowledged my switch. Less than 48 hours after I initiated it.

Just a shame I have to wait due to the 14 day cooling off period

Here's an excerpt from the acknowledgement email they sent me

The if we can do anything to make you stay part made me smile lol

"We trust that this email finds you well.

This email is to inform you that we have received a notification that another supplier is taking over the supply of your meter. Please confirm if this is done as per your request.

If you are unaware of this switch, please contact us so that we can accordingly object to this.If you are indeed moving to another supplier, we would request you to provide us with a meter read on the day of switch so that we can process your final bill as per your meter read.

Having said that, if there is indeed anything that we can do to make you change your mind and decide to stay with us, please let us know. We promise to try and resolve any issues that you may have."

Personally, I would give this lot a miss. I signed up in November after leaving Yorkshire Energy. My first bill was £12, second £74 and most recent, £100. I've cut my ties with them, even though it'll cost me £25 to do so. I've gone back to Yorkshire who tell me that I will spend around £400 par annum on electricity (based on my previous usage with them) as opposed to £720 based on the combined figures above multiplied by 4.
Also, when I rang to query, I received a voicemail saying no-one was available to take my call. Really??? I left a message and 2 days on, I've yet to receive a reply.
I've just cancelled my DD. Let them fight me for it :-)
