Good and Bad Buying at Lidl and Aldi (***Please don't expire***)

Poundstretcher's still probably the cheapest at 19p, but Aldi was relatively competitive at 27p. Lidl's 25p.
It's not really the price, though, but the convenience of being able to buy it with the rest of the shopping, and it's annoying to have to make a separate trip just for paracetamol because Aldi don't sell it any more.0 -

Aldi (and almost everyone else) had been out of cheap, generic ibuprofen for several months until recently. It even affected Boots and it was claimed there has been an 'interruption to the supply chain' (that's the official line).
What the actual cause was I do not know but one source suggested that generics such as these are mass produced in a very few plants situated in the most unlikely places (India and China have both been mentioned) and simply repackaged in Germany to suit the many different vendors and national labelling requirements. The 'interruption' may have been due to a 'quality issue' it was suggested, which is a little disturbing.
I suppose it is just paracetamol's turn.0 -
Poundland have been doing 3 packs for a £1 since Christmas , not real cheap I know but Ive noticed its getting harder and harder to find generic paracetamol anywhere ( I had flu and needed them hence looking )0

A few years ago, my brother-in-law was prescribed paracetamol, but the prescription charge meant it would cost more than what we could get in the shops.. but you can only buy 2 packs at a time, so I would pop into various shops to 'accumulate' enough packs. I don't go 'out of my way', but do check whenever I am nearby. I have an Aldi, Tesco, Asda and Lidl, all within a 2km radius of home, and a Poundland, Wilko and £-stretcher about 3-4 miles away.0

Last lot I got was from Savers.
Can't remember how much but probably less than 30p.0 -
The above might interest you. It's pretty clear from that that Heinz are making soups for Aldi, and I imagine they will for Lidl too.
The ingredients may vary, but having looked at a few, the variation is small. The price difference, though, is large.
It was in the media a few years ago, Aldi customers were buying the multipacks of their own Hula Hoops to find inside some of the packs were the actual HHs!0 -

At least we have the luxury of buying standard painkillers in supermarkets. In most mainland European countries, you can only buy them in chemists and they are €2 a pack. Have relatives who live in France and have been buying a couple of dozen packs on their visit to the UK.0 -
On the subject of A & L products that are very similar to branded products...
New Product in Aldi: Munchy Bars 6x32g 85p. These are very, very similar to Cadbury's Brunch Bars (that retail anywhere from 99p to £1.99). Personally, I'd say that they are not quite the same (maybe they are made in the same factory but with different ingredients?)
New Vegan products in Aldi's growing range:-
- Chilled Vegan non-Meatballs: 12 for £1.79
- Frozen Vegan Sausages or non-Meatballs: 99p
- Frozen Vegan Pizzas: £1.75 (according to The Mirror, this is a special buy until March).0 -
