    The only advantage with a 4x4 is getting started in the snow.
    Most modern ones use the Haldex system where the other wheels are only driven when the fronts spin.
    As has been said, they are no better once your on the move .
    If you really have a problem with snow buy a proper 4 wheel drive where all the wheels are permanently driven.
    As far as tyres go I've never needed 'winter' tyres .....some people should just learn to drive properly

    What you need is an Aixam Mega Track.

    Unfortunately they only ever made.. well no-one's really sure, but it's probably less than 10, so they're pretty much priceless.

    Its not an advantage if on summer tyres though.

    Same Car, same size tyres and you will find in order of best performance in snow / ice;

    Good - 4x4 on Summer tyres
    Better - 2WD on Winter Tyres
    Best - 4x4 on Winter Tyres
