O2 do a £10 tariff for 5000 texts and some data and minutes on pay as you go.

"continual" - I've only seen the suggestion once, and I agreed with it.

It often comes up in questions asked about messaging other people or countries or people asking about things like wificalling.

Sure, whatsapp only works if you have a smart phone.

But SMS only works if you have a mobile phone.

That’s a pretty stupid statement, (the discussion was about text messaging) and actually wrong, it is possible to send SMS to a landline.

Move with the times, and use appropriate technology for the task in hand.

The cost of a new smartphone, spread over two years, can be as low as £5 a month. And my monthly sim only contact is £7.50 a month.

Another irrelevant and ill thought out comment, even if the OP has a smartphone do you expect the OP to also buy a smartphone and pay a monthly fee for everyone in his messaging group who is still using an older phone? What if 10 of those people are using old Nokias? Are you going to be happy paying out £75 a month and spending £50 for them to have a smartphone to use WhatsApp?

A lot of older people are happy with an old Nokia or Doro etc, they don’t want the complication of a smartphone.

It’s really simple, WhatsApp isn’t the answer to a question about how to get unlimited sms text messages.

I don't think that all of my Dad's contacts are on WhatsApp and probably some don't possess a smartphone so it is easier for him to send SMS messages.

He does have WhatsApp though and occasionally uses the app to message some of his friends but, as someone pointed out in an earlier post, this only works if you have a smartphone with the app installed.

I'll have a look at this & see if it might be suitable

He won't need a lot of minutes as he doesn't make a lot of voice calls and his data would only be used primarily when away from home.

Effectively £5 a month for unlimited standard calls and text messages.

    MMS are included.

Any chargeable calls or text messages will be rejected.

First three months for the price of one if you're very quick.

The SIM has to be bought by tomorrow and activated by 18 Feb. I've just checked the T&Cs
